Job Overview: The Chief of Party (COP) for the anticipated USAID Ethiopia Resilience in Pastoral Areas (RIPA) II project will be responsible for leading and overseeing the overall implementation of the program. This five-year initiative aims to enhance the resilience capacities of households, markets, and governance institutions across Ethiopia, contributing to improved security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security and inclusive economic growth. The COP will provide strategic vision, operational leadership, and human resources management, ensuring that the program meets its objectives and adheres to USAID guidelines. The role requires a passionate and dedicated professional who can foster innovation and maximize impact through adaptive management practices.
Duties and Responsibilities: The COP will be responsible for the overall program implementation, including providing leadership, direction, and supervision of staff, consultants, and partners. Key responsibilities include ensuring the implementation of technical interventions, leading regular work plan and budget reviews, managing team members to deliver against the annual workplan, ensuring compliance with Global Communities and USAID regulations, and facilitating adaptive management. The COP will also oversee the production and submission of timely reports to USAID, act as the primary point of contact with USAID and government counterparts, and build strong relationships with stakeholders. Additionally, the COP will ensure that lessons learned are disseminated and applied across the program.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field such as international development, agriculture, economic development, or rural development, along with a minimum of 10 years of experience managing multi-sectoral projects. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree with at least 12 years of relevant experience is acceptable. Candidates should have at least five years of experience in a senior management position, preferably as Chief of Party, leading large international donor programs related to food security and livelihoods. Experience in East Africa, particularly Ethiopia, is preferred, along with proven leadership skills and knowledge of USAID policies and regulations.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is required, with a focus on international development, agriculture, economic development, or rural development. A Bachelor’s degree is acceptable if accompanied by extensive relevant experience. The educational background should reflect a strong foundation in the principles of development and management, particularly in contexts related to food security and economic resilience.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 10 years of experience in managing multi-sectoral projects, with increasing responsibilities in fields related to food security, livelihoods, and disaster risk management. Candidates should have at least five years of experience in a senior management role, particularly as Chief of Party, leading large international donor programs.
