Job Overview:
The Communications Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Communications Strategy for the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. This position involves delivering a variety of tailored communications activities, creating and editing both editorial and graphic content, and conducting necessary research and analysis. The officer will work under the supervision of the Ocean Decade Communications and Science Outreach Manager and will closely collaborate with the Programme Specialist of the Marine Policy and Regional coordination-section" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Coordination Section. The role requires a proactive approach to enhance the visibility and reputation of the Ocean Decade, ensuring that all communications are coherent and aligned with institutional goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communications Officer will be responsible for several key tasks, including supporting the implementation of the Ocean Decade Communications Strategy, assisting in the development of strategies and campaigns for high-profile projects, and generating innovative communication assets. The officer will lead the creation and dissemination of the Ocean Decade newsletter, analyze communication trends, and support the development of engaging stories and multimedia content. Additionally, the officer will promote awareness of the Ocean Decade through various publications and digital platforms, assist in the management of multimedia content, and document and evaluate communications activities. The role also includes responding to partner inquiries and ensuring the quality and consistency of all communications.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in media/communication studies, public relations, or a related social science field. They should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, including at least 1 year at the international level, specifically in public relations, communications, or advocacy, ideally related to social or ocean issues. The role requires demonstrated experience in implementing institutional communications in a multilingual context, as well as proficiency in graphic design, multimedia product development, and web content management.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is a Master’s degree in media/communication studies, public relations, or other related social sciences. This educational background is essential for the candidate to effectively design and develop communication products and multimedia materials that align with the objectives of the Ocean Decade.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, with at least 1 year of that experience at the international level. Candidates should have a strong background in public relations, communications, or advocacy, preferably with a focus on social issues or ocean-related topics. This level of experience is crucial for understanding the complexities of international communications and the specific challenges faced in promoting ocean science initiatives.

Languages:
