Job Overview:
The Digital Engagement Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Communications Strategy for the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. This position is designed to build collective engagement and drive impactful digital communications. The officer will work closely with the Decade Coordination Unit and will be responsible for creating and executing a digital engagement plan that aligns with the Ocean Decade's priorities. The role emphasizes the importance of audience-focused communication, particularly through social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram, as well as web outreach. The officer will also be responsible for ensuring that digital communications are accessible and engaging, fostering dialogue around ocean science and sustainability.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Digital Engagement Officer will undertake a variety of tasks, including developing a comprehensive digital engagement plan, creating compelling digital content for campaigns, and disseminating information about the Ocean Decade's initiatives. The officer will identify and share digital stories from endorsed Decade Actions, facilitate discussions on digital platforms, and implement strategies to engage online influencers. Additionally, the officer will work on creating audio content, track digital media trends, and advise management on engagement strategies. The role also involves liaising with various stakeholders to ensure coordinated communication efforts and generating visibility content for partners and donors.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in media or communication studies, public relations, or a related social science field. They should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years at an international level, specifically in public relations, communications, or advocacy, preferably related to ocean issues. The role requires demonstrated experience in multilingual communications, developing digital engagement strategies, and managing social media platforms effectively.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in media/communication studies, public relations, or other related social sciences is required. This educational background should provide the candidate with the necessary skills to design and develop communication products and multimedia materials effectively.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, with at least 2 years of that experience at an international level. Candidates should have a strong background in public relations, communications, or advocacy, particularly in relation to ocean issues, which is essential for understanding the context and challenges of the role.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in additional UN languages is considered an asset. The ability to communicate effectively in multiple languages is crucial for engaging diverse audiences and stakeholders.
