Job Overview:
The position of United Nations Volunteer (UNV) in Digital Communications at UNEP's Latin America and the Caribbean Office (LACO) involves contributing to the organization's communication strategies and public information efforts. The UNV will play a crucial role in producing, adapting, and editing original content for UNEP's regional sites in both Spanish and English. This includes creating multimedia content, updating websites, and supporting the dissemination of UNEP's activities and milestones across various platforms. The UNV will also assist in the migration and updating of content on UNEP thematic websites, research and compile information for communication products, and maintain journalist databases to enhance media coverage of UNEP events. The role requires full-time commitment, working 40 hours per week, from Monday to Friday, under the supervision of the Head of the Regional Communication Unit.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UNV will undertake a variety of tasks, including:
  • Designing communication strategies to promote UNEP LACO activities, including creating press releases and social media content.
  • Updating the UNEP LAC regional website in English and Spanish.
  • Creating event web pages to promote UNEP activities.
  • Researching and drafting high-quality content about UNEP milestones.
  • Supporting communication plans for multilateral meetings and events.
  • Implementing UNEP's global communication strategy in the region.
  • Managing LACO's social media accounts.
  • Assisting in the publication process of documents.
  • Coordinating media coverage of UNEP events. 1

  • Conducting official travel for communications coverage. 1
  • Supporting knowledge management activities and developing advocacy materials. 1
  • Advising on communication materials and outreach opportunities. 1

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in English and Spanish. They should have experience in digital communications, content creation, and social media management. Familiarity with environmental issues and the workings of international organizations is highly desirable. The ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment and manage multiple tasks effectively is essential. Proficiency in using analytics tools to track performance and improve communication strategies is also required.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, environmental science, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in relevant areas will be considered an asset.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 1-2 years of experience in communications, public relations, or a related field. Experience working with international organizations or in the environmental sector is preferred. Familiarity with digital content creation and management is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Spanish is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the region would be considered an advantage.
