Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer position is part of UNICEF’s flagship programming initiative, which aims to promote children's survival, protection, and development across various contexts. The role involves providing professional technical assistance and support for design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design, planning, implementation, management, and evaluation of activities related to child well-being. The volunteer will work under the supervision of the Chief Field Office (CFO) in Zahle, Lebanon, and will be responsible for engaging with local municipalities and communities to enhance their capacity in governance, child rights, and social accountability. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure that local policies and programs are child-friendly and effectively address the needs of children in the Bekaa and Baalback el Hermel Governorates. The volunteer will also support data collection and analysis to inform local decision-making and contribute to emergency preparedness and response efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UN Volunteer will undertake a variety of duties, including:
  • Sensitization and capacity support: Engaging with selected municipalities, unions, and governors to enhance their understanding of local governance, child well-being, and rights, as well as disaster risk reduction strategies.
  • Development of concept notes and terms of reference: Assisting in the creation of documents that support local systems strengthening and capacity building initiatives.
  • Local data and evidence: Collaborating with UNICEF and partners to identify and update data related to children's issues at the municipal level.
  • Development of child-friendly local policies: Supporting municipalities in creating plans and programs that prioritize children's access to services.
  • Ensuring program quality and relevance: Working closely with UNICEF program officers to align local initiatives with broader program goals.
  • Community engagement: Empowering communities through enhanced participation and information sharing, particularly during emergencies.
  • Coordination with other actors: Collaborating with organizations such as UNDP, UN-HABITAT, and UNHCR to maximize impact for children.
  • Contributing to field operations: Supporting evidence generation, documentation, and monitoring of projects and initiatives.
  • Emergency preparedness and response: Assisting the CFO and program team in managing information related to emergencies.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the UN Volunteer position should possess a strong understanding of child rights and well-being, as well as experience in local governance and community engagement. They should demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. A background in social sciences, public administration, or a related field is preferred. Additionally, candidates should be adaptable, proactive, and capable of working in challenging environments.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in social sciences, public administration, international relations, or a related field is required for this position. Advanced degrees are an asset and may be preferred depending on the specific requirements of the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in community development, local governance, or child rights advocacy. Experience working with international organizations, NGOs, or government agencies in similar contexts is highly desirable. Familiarity with data collection and analysis methods, as well as program monitoring and evaluation, will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable. Knowledge of French or other languages may be considered an asset, depending on the specific needs of the role.
