Job Posting Organization:
The Economic Commission for Western Asia (ECWA) was established on 9 August 1973, following the Economic and Social Council’s resolution 1818 (LV). The mission of ECWA is to stimulate economic activity in its member countries, strengthen cooperation among them, and promote sustainable development. The organization aims to support economic and social development, encourage regional integration, and raise global awareness of the needs of its member countries. ECWA operates in collaboration with various UN divisions, specialized agencies, and regional organizations, including the League of Arab States and the Gulf Cooperation Council. It serves as a platform for policy formulation, coordination, and knowledge sharing among member states.

Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer will play a crucial role in providing econometric support to analyze investment opportunities and potentials within the economies of member states. This position is integral to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly in the context of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4). The volunteer will engage in quantitative economic modeling and causal inference, contributing to the development of sustainable financing frameworks aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The role involves comprehensive statistical analysis, literature reviews, and the preparation of research papers and presentations, all aimed at enhancing the understanding of financing for development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UN Volunteer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Providing econometric support to analyze investment opportunities in member states' economies.
  • Conducting quantitative economic modeling and causal inference.
  • Performing comprehensive statistical compilations to support report preparation and in-depth analysis.
  • Updating financing for development (FfD) data analytics methodologies.
  • Assisting in the preparation of literature reviews, research papers, and presentations.
  • Assessing and examining data sets for accuracy, clarity, and validity, and interpreting results.
  • Compiling and creating comprehensive tables, lists, charts, and producing graphs, figures, and dashboards that illustrate key aspects of financing for development.
  • Assisting in the preparation of upcoming FfD activities and meetings in ESCWA member states.
  • Collaborating closely with team members in Financing for Development and contributing to the team's work as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong analytical skills, particularly in econometrics and statistical analysis. Proficiency in quantitative economic modeling and causal inference is essential. Familiarity with data analytics methodologies related to financing for development is highly desirable. The ability to interpret complex data sets and present findings clearly is crucial. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary for preparing reports and presentations. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute effectively to group tasks.

Educational Background:
A degree in economics, statistics, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees (Master's or PhD) in relevant disciplines are preferred. Candidates should have a solid foundation in econometrics and statistical analysis, with coursework or experience in quantitative modeling and data analytics.

Experience:
Candidates should have prior experience in econometric analysis, statistical modeling, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations or in a development context is an advantage. Familiarity with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and financing for development frameworks is beneficial. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of conducting research and analysis in a professional setting.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of the organization. Knowledge of Arabic or French is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with member states and enhance collaboration within the team.
