The Economic Commission for Western Asia (ECWA) was established on 9 August 1973, following the Economic and Social Council’s resolution 1818 (LV). The mission of ECWA is to stimulate economic activity in member countries, strengthen cooperation among them, and promote development. The organization aims to support economic and social development in member countries, encourage interaction and cooperation, facilitate the exchange of experiences and best practices, achieve regional integration, and raise global awareness of the circumstances and needs of its member countries. ECWA provides a framework for the formulation and harmonization of sectoral policies, serves as a platform for congress and coordination, and acts as a repository of expertise and knowledge. Its activities are coordinated with various divisions and main offices of the United Nations, specialized agencies, and international and regional organizations, including the League of Arab States and the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Job Overview:
The UX/UI Expert will be responsible for developing and maintaining frontend websites, as well as designing various collaterals. This role requires creating visually appealing layouts and features that adhere to professional graphic design standards. The contractor will follow established UN standards for web development, IT technologies, programming languages, and tools. Additionally, the expert will prepare, maintain, and reference project-based technical, user, and functional specifications and documentation. The position emphasizes the importance of user-friendly design and the ability to interpret user requirements effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Create the look, layout, and features of websites in an attractive, professional graphic design style that is intuitive and user-friendly.
  • Develop frontend components for websites using UN established standards for web design, technologies, and tools.
  • Interpret user requirements and translate them into comprehensive systems specifications.
  • Analyze and provide advice on innovative web-based solutions.
  • Prepare technical and user documentation for deployed websites and products, including training materials and conducting technical presentations.
  • Maintain functional specifications for websites, programs, and procedures that have been developed or modified.
  • Provide ongoing support for deployed websites, including version management, data recovery, and deployment processes.
  • Support the digitization, visualization, and development of infographics for various products.
  • Train staff on completed products to ensure effective use and understanding. 1
  • Assist in the maintenance and enhancement of existing user systems, the development of new software applications, and initiatives related to data visualization and analytics. 1
  • Perform any other related tasks as needed in accordance with UN ICT or ESCWA’s strategy.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a strong understanding of UX/UI principles, web development standards, and graphic design. Candidates should possess a solid foundation in frontend development technologies and tools, as well as experience in creating user-friendly interfaces. Familiarity with UN standards and practices in web development is highly desirable. Additionally, the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders is essential.

Educational Background:
A degree in Computer Science, Graphic Design, Web Development, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in UX/UI design or web development are advantageous and may enhance a candidate's qualifications.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in UX/UI design and frontend web development. Experience working with international organizations or in a UN context is preferred. Proven track record of successfully delivering web projects and collaborating with cross-functional teams is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Arabic or French is considered an asset and may enhance communication with diverse stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position may involve a contract duration that is project-based, with potential for extension based on performance and project needs. The role is expected to be full-time, and candidates may be recruited nationally or internationally, depending on the applicant pool.
