In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. In doing so, UN Member States took an historic step in accelerating the Organization’s goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system, which focused exclusively on gender equality and women’s empowerment: > Division for the Advancement of Women (DAW) > International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW) > Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women (OSAGI) > United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) The main roles of UN Women are: > To support inter-governmental bodies, such as the Commission on the Status of Women, in their formulation of policies, global standards and norms. > To help Member States to implement these standards, standing ready to provide suitable technical and financial support to those countries that request it, and to forge effective partnerships with civil society. > To lead and coordinate the UN system’s work on gender equality as well as promote accountability, including through regular monitoring of system-wide progress.

Job Overview:
The Partnership and Communication Associate will play a crucial role in supporting UN Women's visibility and communication efforts in Tajikistan. This position involves implementing visibility and communications activities, including organizing events, campaigns, and developing knowledge products. The associate will work closely with program staff to ensure effective communication of UN Women's mandate and strategic goals to key stakeholders, including the government, civil society, and donor communities. The role also includes maintaining digital presence, managing social media platforms, and contributing to the design and evaluation of programs. The associate will be responsible for building strong partnerships and ensuring consistent service delivery in communication efforts, thereby enhancing the visibility of UN Women's work and its impact on gender equality and women's empowerment in the country.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide coordination support in developing a coherent Programme Office communications and advocacy strategy, including inputs for communication strategy development and organizing advocacy events.
  • Support the creation of advocacy materials by identifying key achievements, drafting press releases, articles, and coordinating translations.
  • Manage the Programme Office's social media presence and website, ensuring consistent branding and content updates.
  • Facilitate media relations by maintaining a press database, organizing media events, and creating multimedia content.
  • Contribute to knowledge management by identifying best practices, organizing training sessions, and sharing information with UN Women offices.
  • Provide technical support for networking and partnerships, ensuring effective collaboration with UN agencies and partners.
  • Assist in monitoring and reporting on program outputs and outcomes, providing inputs for donor reports and other documentation.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor, including support for special projects.

Required Qualifications:
  • University degree in communications, gender studies, journalism, public relations, graphic design, or a related field.
  • At least 6 years of work experience in public relations, journalism, communications, or advocacy at national or international levels.
  • Proven experience in producing multimedia materials for social media and digital communications.
  • Strong knowledge of social media strategies and communication methods.
  • Experience in event coordination, writing success stories, and reports.
  • Proficiency in using PC and MS Office software, as well as graphic design applications like Adobe and Canva.
  • Experience in photography and videography, including post-production editing.

Educational Background:
A university degree in areas such as communications, gender studies, journalism, public relations, graphic design, or other relevant fields is required for this position. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of communication strategies and gender issues, which are central to the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience at national or international levels. This experience should encompass public relations, journalism, communications, or advocacy, with a strong emphasis on partnership building and multimedia production. Familiarity with the UN system and its policies is advantageous, as is experience in coordinating events and writing reports.

Languages:
Proficiency in oral and written English, Tajik, and Russian is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another UN official language is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a diverse environment.
