The Mines Advisory Group (MAG) is a non-governmental organization that assists people affected by landmines, unexploded ordnance, and small arms and light weapons. MAG takes a humanitarian approach to landmine action. They focus on the impact of their work on local communities. This approach recognises that although the number of landmines in an area may be small, the effect on a community can be crippling. Targets are therefore determined locally, in response to liaison with affected communities, and local authorities. MAG field operations are managed and implemented by nationals of the affected countries, with MAG expatriate staff taking a monitoring and training role. MAG provides work for many members of affected communities, with families of landmine victims taking an active role.

Roving Programme Officer, West Africa
Permanent contract The starting salary package for this position is £36,796 GBP / approx. $51,351 USD including all allowances About MAG: MAG saves lives and builds futures by working with others to reclaim land contaminated with the debris of conflict, to reduce the daily risk of death or injury for civilians, and to create safe and secure conditions for development. About MAG in West Africa: MAG supports the development of countries emerging from conflict by finding and destroying the explosive remnants of war, so that communities can raise their families and pursue their livelihoods in a safe and secure environment, free from fear of death or injury. The main area of focus in MAG’s programmes across West Africa is Weapons and Ammunition Management (WAM), working with national defence and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security authorities towards the safe storage, management and destruction of weapons and munitions. About the role: As Roving Programme Officer with MAG in West Africa, you will be responsible for providing support to the Regional Programmes Manager (RPM) in the effective integration of strategic, programmatic and operational management for grants implemented in Gambia, Guinea, Mauritania, Senegal and Sierra Leone. You will undertake a wide range of activities including grant and contract monitoring, information systems management, and proposal and report writing for donors. You will support the RPM in ensuring that programmes meet their contractual requirements, and in programme business planning and budgeting. Communication with donors and partners will be a core function of the role. This role will involve regular travel between Sierra Leone, Guinea and Gambia, and it is expected that the role will be based in Guinea when not travelling. About you: The successful candidate will have significant experience working in development and humanitarian programme related field operations or field activities in developing countries. Project design and planning, proposal writing, report writing and research skills are essential, as is experience of developing and supporting projects. The ability to establish effective working relationships at all levels internally and externally is essential to this role and therefore we are looking for a candidate with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Fluency in English and professional proficiency in French (reading, written and spoken) are essential.
