Job Overview:
The Driver position at UNFPA involves providing reliable and safe driving services to the Country office. The role requires a high level of discretion, integrity, and responsibility, as the driver will be responsible for transporting UNFPA staff, officials, and visitors. The driver must maintain a client-oriented approach, demonstrating courtesy and tact while working with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds. The position also entails keeping abreast of traffic regulations and safety protocols to ensure timely arrivals for meetings. The driver will report directly to the Finance & Admin Associate and will play a crucial role in supporting the organization's operations through effective transportation services.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities of the Driver include:
  • Providing reliable and safe driving services by transporting UNFPA staff, officials, and visitors;
  • Delivering and collecting mail and documentation as required;
  • Meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport, managing visa and customs formalities when necessary;
  • Staying informed about traffic, road conditions, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security issues to ensure safe and timely arrivals;
  • Managing all aspects of vehicle maintenance, including conducting minor repairs, cleaning, and arranging for major repairs and servicing;
  • Keeping daily vehicle logs and assisting in the preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and history reports;
  • Keeping track of insurance and tax formalities;
  • Acting as a translator in the local language for official passengers when needed;

  • Assisting Country Office staff with general administrative duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Driver position include:
  • A valid driver’s license;
  • A minimum of three years’ work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system, with a proven safe driving record;
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol, and local road conditions;
  • Defensive driving skills;
  • Skills in minor vehicle repairs;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed Secondary School Education as a minimum educational requirement for the Driver position. This foundational education is essential for understanding the responsibilities and duties associated with the role.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have at least three years of relevant work experience as a driver, particularly within international organizations, embassies, or the UN system. This experience should include a demonstrated safe driving record and familiarity with the specific driving protocols and regulations applicable in such environments.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with good verbal communication skills being essential for effective interaction with staff and visitors. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not explicitly required for this position.
