Since 2009, CARE has led an innovative program called Learning Tours. The goal is to take policymakers, government leaders and change-makers on short, intensive trips where they meet the people whose lives are being transformed through US investments. We believe when leaders meet the women and families, they will be inspired and motivated to lead change.

Latin America. This person plays a key role in leading the Learning Tours program specifically, as well as furthering CARE’s advocacy priorities related to foreign assistance, gender,
nutrition" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food and nutrition
security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security,
global health and
humanitarian response through cross-functional collaboration broadly. The trips are designed for high level delegates to gain a more thorough understand of what development and humanitarian response looks like on the ground and the importance of foreign assistance and global leadership.
The Deputy Director of Learning Tours has experience planning high profile congressional delegation trips as well as experience living in countries outside of the US with the demonstrated ability to navigate relationships with community members and local partners with dignity and respect.
Responsibilities:
- Supports in relationship management and cultivation of Learning Tour alumni network, grant and budget management, team management and departmental strategic planning and priority-setting
- Prepares and plans trips including pre-advance planning trips to evaluate and identify sites to visit, develop trip agenda and narrative, collaborate with implementing partners, US missions, vendors and CARE colleagues in country to finalize trip preparation
- Supports donor cultivation efforts and relationship management as necessary including drafting proposals, grant reports, donor communications
- Coordinates with CARE’s Citizen Advocacy Network and Government Relations teams to ensure delegation recruitment, trip narrative and themes and post-trip cultivation plans align with departmental priorities to further CARE’s advocacy agenda
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, required. Master’s degree in international relations, public policy or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- 4-7 years’ experience with a background in advocacy, US government, international development and/or humanitarian response
- Experience managing projects in a complex international organization
- Experience traveling and/or working in the developing world
- Experience with political and/or social change advocacy campaigns
- Successful experience planning and managing Congressional delegation travel and/or other VIP travel overseas
- Knowledge of how US government policy is made and implemented
