Job Overview: The Managing Director, Equity is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the equity investment activities of the EBRD. This includes direct equity investments and participation in various funds such as private equity, infrastructure, venture capital, mezzanine, and debt funds. The MD will ensure a cohesive equity culture within the Banking Group, focusing on origination, processing, value creation, portfolio management, and exits. The role requires a strategic approach to reviewing and updating the Bank's equity strategy in response to changing market conditions. The MD will leverage their investment experience and leadership skills to drive the Bank's equity initiatives and collaborate effectively across departments. Reporting to the First Vice President of the Client Services Group, the MD will also engage with various stakeholders to align equity functions with institutional objectives and financial goals.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Managing Director will be accountable for establishing best-in-class equity investment standards and risk management practices. Key responsibilities include providing strategic guidance for equity investment origination and processing, overseeing the Equity Value Creation process, and managing the equity investment portfolio. The MD will design and implement strategies for executing equity exits and manage the appointment of nominee directors. They will work closely with the VP Risk and VP Finance to assess the desirability of active post-investment management of the equity portfolio. The MD will participate in the Equity Committee's decision-making process and represent the Bank in high-profile external forums. Additionally, the MD will be responsible for budget management, staff integration, recruitment, performance management, and fostering a culture of integrity and ethical conduct within the Equity Group.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess extensive equity investment experience, preferably within a private equity firm, institutional investor, or financial institution, with a strong understanding of the EBRD's operational regions. A comprehensive understanding of the strategic and developmental priorities of the EBRD is essential, including its role as an impact investor. Candidates should have experience with listed equities, IPOs, and privatizations, as well as a relevant academic background at the postgraduate level or equivalent professional qualifications. Demonstrated risk management skills and a proven track record of cross-functional collaboration are critical. Experience in developing and implementing strategic plans, along with a history of leading and developing teams, is also required.
Educational Background: A postgraduate degree in finance, economics, business administration, or a related field is required. Equivalent combinations of academic and professional qualifications may also be considered. The educational background should reflect a strong foundation in financial principles and investment strategies relevant to the role.
Experience: The position requires significant experience in equity investment, ideally with a focus on private equity and institutional investment. Candidates should have a proven record of accomplishment in performance management and team leadership, demonstrating the ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives effectively. Experience in managing complex investment portfolios and engaging with diverse stakeholders is essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the Bank. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the EBRD's countries of operation would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with a broader range of stakeholders.
