Job Overview: The UNHCR PSP FundraisingIntern will play a crucial role in enhancing donor experience and strengthening relationships with UNHCR supporters. This internship is designed for individuals who are passionate about humanitarian work and eager to contribute to the mission of UNHCR. The intern will support the Donor Care & Development (DCD) team, which was established in 2025 to manage individual donor relationships through retention, development, and engagement activities. The intern's responsibilities will include developing engaging content for various communication platforms, assisting with events, and delivering impactful campaigns that inspire action and make a real difference in the lives of refugees. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in fundraising and donor engagement within a reputable international organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks aimed at enhancing donor communication and engagement. Key duties include:
Producing online and offline donor communication materials to strengthen donor engagement and retention, including emails, direct mail, web content, WhatsApp messages, social media posts, and telemarketing scripts.
Conducting research and developing donor communication materials using internal media libraries and other UNHCR platforms.
Managing and analyzing donor communication engagement across various channels to assess effectiveness.
Liaising with and monitoring outsourced vendor services, such as printing and mailing, to ensure quality and timely delivery of materials.
Updating reports from donor communication platforms like Selligent to track engagement metrics.
Supporting the planning and execution of donor events to foster relationships with supporters.
Assisting in monitoring, analyzing, and consolidating donor data from both external and internal platforms to inform strategies.
Managing donor inquiries as needed and performing other related duties as required to support the DCD team.
Required Qualifications: To be eligible for this internship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Be a recent graduate (having completed their studies within the last two years) or a current student in a graduate or undergraduate program from a university or higher education institution accredited by IAU/UNESCO.
Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant to the work of UNHCR, such as international relations, social sciences, or communications.
Not have exhausted the maximum cumulative internship period with UNHCR, which is 8 months for full-time and 12 months for part-time internships.
Candidates with a familial relationship to a current UNHCR staff member or affiliate are not eligible for this internship.
Educational Background: Candidates must have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a relevant field. This could include areas such as international relations, social work, communications, or any other discipline that aligns with the mission and work of UNHCR. A strong academic background will be beneficial in understanding the complexities of refugee issues and donor engagement strategies.
Experience: While prior experience is not mandatory, any relevant experience in fundraising, donor relations, or communications will be considered an asset. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proactive attitude, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Experience in volunteer work or internships related to humanitarian efforts will also be advantageous.
Languages: The primary language required for this position is English, with a proficiency level of B2 or higher. Knowledge of additional languages will be considered a plus, as it can enhance communication with diverse donor groups and stakeholders. Familiarity with local languages may also be beneficial in engaging with the community.
Additional Notes: This internship is a full-time position with working hours from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday, totaling 40 hours per week. Interns who do not receive financial support from an external party will receive an allowance to help cover food, transportation, and living expenses. The internship duration typically ranges from two to six months, with the possibility of extension up to eight months for full-time internships and twelve months for part-time internships. Interns are responsible for acquiring and renewing their visas and residence permits, as well as obtaining health insurance coverage and a certificate of good health. UNHCR does not charge any fees during the recruitment process and encourages applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds, including those with a refugee or stateless status.
