The Supply ChainManagement Unit (SCMU) was operationalized in January 2022 and is self-funded, tasked with ensuring the effective delivery of life-saving reproductive health products and other supplies.
Job Overview: The Individual Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the LogisticsManagement Services (LMS) Team by executing day-to-day global logistics operations. This includes managing freight, inventory, customer orders, shipment monitoring, and logistics documentation. The consultant will ensure the timely and compliant delivery of reproductive health commodities and humanitarian supplies while maintaining accurate logistics records and supporting operational reporting. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including internal teams and external partners, to enhance the efficiency of logistics operations. The consultant will report to either the Freight Team Lead or the Stock Management Team Lead, depending on the assignment, and will contribute to continuous process improvement and business continuity within the SCMU's logistics operations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for a range of logistics operations and customer support tasks, including planning and executing logistics operations for programme supplies and reproductive health commodities. They will provide guidance to customers on logistics processes, process customer orders, and coordinate with suppliers and logistics service providers to ensure timely delivery. The consultant will monitor inventory levels, support transportation planning, and ensure compliance with logistics documentation requirements. Additionally, they will create and process inventory and logistics transactions within UNFPA's enterprise systems, maintain operational records, and monitor supplier performance against service levels. The consultant will also participate in training sessions and contribute to the development of standard operating procedures and process improvements. Collaboration with colleagues across SCMU and other partners will be essential to ensure effective supply chain operations and business continuity during peak workloads or emergencies.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience in inventory management, humanitarian response, logistics, or related areas, preferably within social mission-driven organizations. This requirement is reduced to 3 years for candidates with a relevant first-level or advanced university degree. Experience in managing international or in-country inventory and logistics operations in the health sector is highly desirable. Familiarity with UN procurement and supply chain policies is an advantage. Proficiency in using Google tools, analytical applications, and ERP systems is required, along with knowledge of global supply chain security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security and compliance regulations. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop partnerships are essential, as well as basic project management skills and professional communication abilities.
Educational Background: Completion of secondary education is required, with a university degree at the Bachelor level in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field being an asset. Certifications such as CIPS Level 2, CILT-UK Level 3, or Project Management qualifications (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP) are also advantageous. Candidates should have a solid understanding of supply chain management principles and practices, particularly in the context of humanitarian and development work.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience at the national or international level in logistics or inventory management, with a focus on humanitarian response. Candidates with a relevant degree may qualify with 3 years of experience. Experience in managing logistics operations, particularly in the health sector, is preferred, along with familiarity with UN policies and procedures. Proficiency in ERP systems and analytical tools is essential, as is experience in supporting logistics business transformation projects.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, while working knowledge of any other UN official language is considered an asset. Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary for effective reporting and presentation of logistics information.
Additional Notes: The consultancy assignment is for a duration of 11 months, with a working schedule of Monday to Friday, totaling 40 hours per week. The consultant will work on-site in Copenhagen, following the SCMU's current schedule.
