Job Overview:
The Senior Drupal Infrastructure Engineer position is situated within the Bureau for Digital Business Solutions (DBS) at UNESCO. The role is pivotal in managing and modernizing UNESCO's web hosting infrastructure, specifically focusing on the Drupal platform and its supporting services. The consultant will work under the authority of the Chief Information Technology Officer (CITO) and will be directly supervised by the Senior IT Operations and Service Manager. The position requires a proactive approach to secure and enhance the web environment, ensuring that it aligns with UNESCO's cloud and infrastructure strategy. The consultant will be responsible for delivering various outputs, including the migration of websites to Cloudflare, implementing security measures, and conducting studies on cloud migration costs. The role also involves daily maintenance of the website environment, ensuring timely updates and security fixes, and providing weekly reports on tasks performed. This position is designed for a highly skilled individual who can work independently and collaboratively within a team, demonstrating strong communication and technical skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
  • Cloudflare Deployment: Overseeing the migration of specified websites to Cloudflare, coordinating with website owners for testing and fine-tuning.
  • WAF Platform Deployment: Ensuring that on-premises websites are secured under the WAF platform, migrating legacy websites, and coordinating testing with DBS and website owners.
  • Support CPE Activities: Installing and upgrading systems such as RabbitMQ, SOLR, and PostgreSQL, contributing to the evolution strategy for virtualization infrastructure, and enhancing performance monitoring.
  • Cloud Migration: Conducting studies on potential cloud migration for the website environment and documenting findings.
  • Daily Maintenance: Applying security updates, ensuring servers are current, testing and installing security fixes for Drupal, and maintaining monitoring solutions for performance alerts.
  • Weekly Reporting: Providing detailed weekly reports on tasks completed by Friday at 6:00 PM.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree (Master’s) or a bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years of relevant working experience in the IT field from a recognized university. A strong focus on Drupal, Linux, and full-stack automation is essential. Experience with tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, New Relic, MySQL databases, and CI/CD pipelines is mandatory. The consultant should also demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, along with knowledge of UN systems and procedures, which is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position includes an advanced degree (Master’s) in a relevant field or a bachelor's degree accompanied by significant professional experience. The educational background should be from a recognized and reputable university, ensuring that the candidate has a solid foundation in IT principles and practices.

Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of successful, relevant professional experience in the IT field, specifically focused on Drupal, Linux, and full-stack automation. If the candidate holds a bachelor's degree, a total of 10 years of experience is required. This experience should encompass a breadth of knowledge in managing web environments and implementing security measures.

Languages:
Candidates must have excellent oral and written skills in English, particularly the ability to draft documents and express views clearly and concisely. Proficiency in additional languages may be beneficial but is not mandatory for this position.

The contract for this position is a consultant contract at Level 3 - Senior, with a duration of 11 months, starting around mid-October 202
  • The role is open to external candidates and allows for remote work, subject to operational requirements. The consultant may need to be available during critical production incidents and major deployments. Any required travel will be arranged in accordance with UNESCO’s rules and procedures.
