Job Overview: The Finance Associate, Awards Management, plays a crucial role within the Financial Management Services (FMS) section of UN Women. This position is responsible for a wide range of financial management tasks that support the organization's mission. The Finance Associate will work under the guidance of the Finance Manager and directly report to the Finance Specialist. The role involves administering financial donor reporting, project financial closure, fund monitoring, contribution revenue recognition, and general accounting functions. The Finance Associate will ensure compliance with International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) and UN Women’s financial regulations, rules, and policies. The position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to achieve the unit's goals and objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Finance Associate will be responsible for the following key functions:
Administer Financial Donor Reporting: Prepare certified financial donor reports in accordance with donor agreements, perform quality assurance reviews, monitor reporting schedules, and maintain supporting documentation.
Administer Project Financial Closure: Clear projects for financial closure, monitor closure status, review unreconciled balances, and respond to inquiries regarding financial closure.
Perform Fund Monitoring: Conduct periodic reviews of earmarked resources, monitor expenditures, process approved transfers, and draft management reports highlighting fund management issues.
Administer Contribution Revenue Recognition: Review donor agreements, create revenue events in the ERP system, perform reconciliations, and oversee maintenance of deposit databases.
Perform General Accounting Functions: Monitor and reconcile General Ledger accounts, assist in financial closing activities, and prepare documentation for audits.
Support Business Process Improvement: Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures and provide technical support to various offices. The incumbent may also perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office.
Required Qualifications: The position requires the following qualifications: Completion of High School (Secondary Education) is mandatory. A specialized certificate or diploma in Accounting/Finance, or a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or Public Administration is preferred. A professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CPA, or CA is an asset. Successful completion of the UN Women Accounting and Finance Test is also required as part of the selection process.
Educational Background: Candidates must have completed at least secondary education, with a preference for those who have a specialized certificate or diploma in Accounting or Finance. A Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or Public Administration is highly desirable. Professional accounting qualifications (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CA) will be considered an asset.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 7 years of progressively relevant work experience in areas such as accounting, financial management, financial reporting, analysis" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">financial analysis, treasury operations, or financial controls. Experience with web-based ERP financial systems, particularly Oracle Cloud, is required. Desirable experience includes financial donor reporting, revenue accounting, financial reconciliation, treasury operations, preparation of financial statements, and audit/internal controls. Familiarity with IPSAS and/or IFRS is also desirable, as is experience working within the UN System in a similar role.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered desirable and will be an advantage in the selection process.
