Job Overview:
The Electrical Design Engineer position at CERN involves joining a dedicated team responsible for developing and optimizing hardware and software solutions for control, protection, and safety systems utilized in CERN's experimental facilities. The role is crucial for ensuring the operation and reliability of the magnet systems associated with the LHC experiments, including ATLAS, CMS, ALICE, and LHCb, as well as other critical infrastructure. The engineer will engage in the design, implementation, and maintenance of low-voltage electrical systems, collaborating closely with engineers, technicians, and physicists in a multidisciplinary environment. This position not only requires technical expertise but also a commitment to teamwork and effective communication to develop reliable and efficient technical solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Electrical Design Engineer include designing and documenting low-voltage power and control systems specifically for magnet safety, control, and auxiliary infrastructure. The engineer will participate in the implementation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems for future LHC upgrades. Additionally, they will contribute to the development and validation of electrical circuits for control and protection applications. Collaboration with physicists, engineers, and technicians is essential to develop reliable and efficient technical solutions. The engineer will also be responsible for producing technical documentation and supporting the operation of critical systems, ensuring that all systems function optimally and meet safety standards.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have experience working on electrical engineering, automation, or technical projects. They should possess exposure to electrical circuit design and documentation, as well as experience using engineering software tools for electrical design, such as EPLAN or equivalent. Familiarity with laboratory testing, commissioning, or troubleshooting activities is also required. Participation in collaborative technical projects involving multiple stakeholders is essential, as is a strong analytical and problem-solving skill set. Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams are critical for success in this role.

Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Technical Engineering or a related field. It is important that applicants have graduated within the last two years to meet the eligibility criteria. Those without a university degree or with a PhD are not eligible for this position, ensuring that the role is filled by individuals who are at the appropriate stage in their professional careers.

Experience:
Candidates should have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in the relevant field. Languages:

Additional Notes:

  • The selected candidate will participate in a regular stand-by duty, which may include nights, Sundays, and official holidays, and will work in radiation areas and underground installations. A valid driving license is required, and candidates must obtain medical clearance due to the occupational health risks associated with the position. Compensation includes a monthly net stipend of either 5266 or 5793 Swiss Francs, depending on the degree, along with 30 days of paid leave per year, comprehensive health insurance coverage, family allowances, and a relocation package.
