Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position within the Multilateral Governance Team at GCF is designed to provide operational, analytical, and administrative support under the supervision of the Multilateral Governance Manager. The intern will engage in both planned and ad-hoc tasks, gaining valuable insights into how GCF implements its corporate strategies and advances synergies with other climate funds, such as the Global Environment Facility (GEF), Adaptation Fund (AF), and Climate Investment Funds (CIF). This role offers a unique opportunity to learn about the intersection of climate finance and international governance, particularly in relation to the guidance received from the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP). The intern will be involved in various activities that contribute to the GCF's mission of enhancing complementarity and coherence across the climate finance landscape, thereby playing a crucial role in the organization's efforts to address climate change.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a range of duties, including but not limited to:
Supporting the Multilateral Governance Team in carrying out its oversight duties to ensure GCF's compliance with UNFCCC COP and CMA guidance.
Assisting in the coordination of interactions with UNFCCC thematic bodies and developing engagement strategies for COP and SB delegations.
Providing administrative support to Observers to the GCF Board and the UNFCCC, including the review and update of relevant Observer Guidelines.
Preparing summaries and analytical materials based on monitoring and analyzing key substantive issues related to climate change and global challenges as requested by the supervisor.
Managing relationships with key internal and external partners, tracking follow-up actions, and developing inputs for strategic engagement.
Coordinating preparations for formal and informal engagements with other climate funds and assisting with research on matters related to multilateral governance and climate policy.
Providing relevant functional and administrative support as requested by the team.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of a master's level qualification in relevant fields such as climate policy, law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">environmental law, diplomacy/international relations, environmental economics, or public policy. A solid understanding and experience in the UNFCCC process is considered a strong advantage. Additionally, familiarity with the operations of international organizations and multilateral financial institutions will be beneficial. Proficiency in standard software programs, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access, is required, while proficiency in Asana is a strong advantage. Excellent writing and presentation skills are essential, along with fluency in English. Knowledge of another United Nations language, particularly French or Spanish, is an added advantage.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should have a master's degree in relevant fields such as climate policy, environmental law, international relations, environmental economics, or public policy. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of climate finance and international agreements.
Experience: Candidates should have relevant experience that demonstrates a strong understanding of UNFCCC processes, policies, and mechanisms. Experience in climate policies or climate projects is highly desirable, showcasing practical knowledge and familiarity with the climate finance landscape.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another United Nations language, particularly French or Spanish, is considered advantageous and may enhance the candidate's profile.
