Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position within the Green Climate Fund's finance and accounting department is designed to provide the intern with a comprehensive understanding of core finance and administrative functions. The intern will gain valuable exposure to project management, budgeting, and accounting processes, which are essential for the effective operation of financial operations within an international organization. This role is particularly focused on providing hands-on experience in financial operations, compliance, and stakeholder engagement, which are critical components of the GCF's mission. The intern will work under the guidance of designated supervisors, allowing for mentorship and professional development throughout the internship period. The position is structured to enhance the intern's understanding of the financial mechanisms that support climate projects and the administrative processes that underpin them, thereby contributing to the intern's overall professional growth and readiness for future career opportunities in finance and accounting.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the core functions of the finance department. These include:
Project Support: Documenting and coordinating DFC projects, maintaining accurate records, and following up on project-related tasks as needed.
Budget Planning: Gathering, consolidating, and updating data for the 2027–2029 budget, as well as assisting with logistics and administrative support for the core team.
General Finance Operations: Processing accounts payable by verifying invoices and tracking payments, checking travel and expense claims for compliance, and helping to reconcile general ledger accounts.
Research: Conducting research on industry benchmarks and regulations to inform financial practices and decision-making.
Administrative Support: Assisting finance leaders with document management, data entry, and various ad-hoc tasks that arise within the department. This comprehensive set of duties ensures that the intern gains a well-rounded experience in finance and accounting operations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be currently enrolled in a Master’s program in business, finance, or a related field. A strong knowledge and experience with investments, financial institutions, and/or accounting practices are essential. Additionally, a good understanding of the operations of international organizations is considered an advantage. Proficiency in standard software programs such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access is required. Excellent writing and presentation skills are also necessary for effective communication within the role. Fluency in English is essential, while knowledge of another United Nations language, particularly French, Spanish, or Portuguese, is advantageous and may enhance the candidate's suitability for the position.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should be pursuing a Master’s degree in business, finance, or a related field. This educational background is crucial as it provides the theoretical knowledge and analytical skills necessary for understanding complex financial concepts and practices. The program should ideally include coursework related to finance, accounting, and project management, which will directly apply to the responsibilities of the internship.
Experience: While specific prior experience is not mandatory, any relevant internships or work experience in finance, accounting, or administrative roles will be beneficial.
