Job Overview:
The internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme at IOM is designed to attract talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in areas relevant to IOM's programmes and activities. Interns are expected to be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. The internship aims to provide practical learning exposure to the work of IOM Albania in the fields of migration, asylum, protection, diaspora engagement, and migration governance. Interns will support the Country Office with research, documentation, coordination, and administrative tasks. The internship is aligned with IOM's Internship Programme, which seeks to enhance the educational experience of young people through meaningful exposure to migration-related work. Interns will gain practical exposure to IOM Albania's work, develop research and analytical skills, and strengthen professional competencies in teamwork, communication, and ethical conduct.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: supporting legal, policy, and institutional research on migration and asylum; assisting in the preparation of briefing notes, background materials, meeting summaries, and presentations; helping with administrative and coordination tasks related to meetings, workshops, and consultations; and contributing to documentation related to programme activities. Interns will also be expected to participate in relevant internal meetings and briefings, and complete mandatory learning requirements, including training on ethics and conduct at IOM. The intern will work under the supervision of the Head of Office and a designated supervisor, who will provide guidance and feedback throughout the internship.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level) in Law, International Law, Migration Studies, International Relations, Political Science, Social Sciences, or a related field. A demonstrated interest in migration, asylum, human rights, international/public law, EU law, or migration governance is essential. Previous internship, volunteering, or civic engagement experience in relevant fields is desirable, as is experience in conducting research, reviewing legal or policy materials, and drafting written inputs. Strong research, analytical, drafting, and communication skills are required, along with good organizational skills and attention to detail.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme, with a minimum of a Bachelor’s level in relevant fields such as Law, International Law, Migration Studies, International Relations, Political Science, or Social Sciences. Alternatively, candidates who have graduated within the last 12 months are also eligible to apply, provided they meet the internship eligibility requirements set by IOM.

Experience:
Candidates should have less than two years of relevant working experience. Previous internships, volunteering, or civic engagement in migration, human rights, youth engagement, legal research, public administration, or civil society are considered advantageous. Experience in conducting research, drafting written materials, and supporting meetings or workshops is also desirable, as it demonstrates the candidate's ability to engage in the tasks expected of the internship.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Albanian is required for this internship position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, but the primary requirement is strong command of both English and Albanian to effectively communicate and perform the duties associated with the internship.

Additional Notes:
The internship may offer a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, depending on experience and location. However, interns who receive an internship allowance or scholarship from their university or other sponsoring body that includes financial remuneration will not be eligible for the stipend. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan for the duration of the internship, but does not offer evacuation or medical insurance for non-occupational accidents. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance and must provide proof of coverage before starting work.
