Job Overview:
The Engineer position within MONUSCO is crucial for the effective execution of engineering projects that support the mission's objectives. The role requires applying professional engineering knowledge to design, construct, and repair various infrastructures such as buildings, roads, bridges, and waste disposal systems. Engineers will be responsible for preparing reports, contributing to budget development, and ensuring compliance with engineering standards. The incumbent will also be involved in site investigations, technical documentation, and asset management, ensuring that all engineering activities align with the mission's goals and quality standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Engineer include:

• Administration: Applying engineering calculations and practices to complete portions of larger projects related to various infrastructures.
• Preparing reports and engineering-related information for progress reporting and quality assessments.
• Drafting responses to audit observations on engineering tasks.
• Contributing to the development of annual engineering budgets and work schedules.
• Monitoring costs and schedule performance against approved budgets.
• Conducting preliminary site investigations to gather necessary field data.
• Liaising with other engineers and specialists to address engineering challenges.
• Providing expert technical advice on policies and procedures related to engineering activities.
• Supporting mission start-up and liquidation phases. 1
• Supervising commercial contractors in facility maintenance works and inspecting routine maintenance activities. 1
• Performing any other duties as required by the Chief Engineering.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of engineering principles and practices, as well as the ability to manage engineering projects effectively.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in a relevant engineering discipline. A first-level university degree may be accepted if accompanied by sufficient professional experience. The focus should be on fields such as Civil Engineering, Architecture, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering, which are critical for the role's responsibilities.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in engineering project management is required. Candidates should have a proven track record in project planning, execution, and evaluation of engineering compliance standards. Experience in managing administrative functions related to engineering, including budgeting and contract management, is desirable. Familiarity with CAD tools for engineering design and experience in developing space plans and optimizing facilities are also beneficial. Experience in peacekeeping or similar international organizations in conflict or post-conflict settings is highly valued.

Languages:
English is the mandatory working language for this position, with a required proficiency level of UN Level III in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. French is desirable, with a recommended proficiency level of UN Level II. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in both languages to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
