Job Overview:
The Local Mobiliser will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Periferia Viva Program in Santo André, São Paulo. This program aims to enhance living conditions in peripheral territories through coordinated public policies and grassroots initiatives. The Local Mobiliser will work closely with the community to promote participation and engagement, ensuring that residents are informed and involved in decision-making processes related to urban development. The position requires effective communication skills to relay project information clearly and efficiently to the community, fostering a sense of belonging and ownership among residents. The Local Mobiliser will also be responsible for organizing meetings, workshops, and other participatory events, thereby facilitating social participation and collaboration within the community. This role is essential for ensuring that the technical activities align with the quality expectations of UN-Habitat and its partners, ultimately contributing to the socio-territorial transformation of the area.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Local Mobiliser will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including: 1) Promoting community participation and engagement in project activities; 2) Organizing and facilitating meetings, workshops, and assemblies to encourage social participation; 3) Communicating project information effectively to ensure community awareness; 4) Encouraging active participation in decision-making processes; 5) Publicizing the program within the community; 6) Attending project meetings as required; 7) Participating in local meetings to represent UN-Habitat; 8) Ensuring that technical activities meet the quality standards set by the Agency; 9) Performing additional duties as requested by the supervisor; 10) Preparing and submitting a Monthly Activity Report in a timely manner; 11) Completing all required training and courses, including the BSAFE security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security course from UNDSS, during the first month of employment; 12) Familiarizing oneself with United Nations security mechanisms and complying with them.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a High School diploma or equivalent, along with two additional years of relevant technical experience beyond the educational requirement. A minimum of four years of experience in social mobilization activities, social work in urban communities, or community organization in Brazil is required. Previous experience working with the United Nations is considered desirable. Candidates should have strong computer skills, particularly in Windows and Office applications, as well as proficiency in web search engines. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, strong organizational skills, effective communication abilities, and a capacity for teamwork in a multicultural environment.

Educational Background:
A High School diploma is required for this position. Candidates with additional relevant technical experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. The educational background should ideally include training or coursework related to social work, community organization, or urban development, which would enhance the candidate's ability to perform the duties of the Local Mobiliser effectively.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of four years of relevant experience in social mobilization, community organization, or social work within urban settings, particularly in slums or disadvantaged communities in Brazil. Experience working with governmental or non-governmental organizations, especially in the context of urban development projects, is highly valued. Familiarity with the United Nations' operational frameworks and methodologies is also beneficial, as it will aid in aligning the Local Mobiliser's work with the organization's goals and standards.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for effective communication with the local community. Proficiency in English and French is advantageous, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of Spanish is also beneficial, given that it is the working language of the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Additional Notes:
The position is based locally in Brazil, specifically in Rio de Janeiro and Santo André, and is open only to Brazilian nationals or candidates with a permanent visa in Brazil. The contract is expected to last for six months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funds. The remuneration for this position is based on the SB-2/4 salary scale of UNDP Brazil.
