Job Overview:
The Safety & security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Coordinator plays a crucial role within RI’s North Syria team, focusing on enhancing security management and contingency planning while fostering a robust safety culture among team members. This position requires collaboration with the Area Manager to ensure that field staff are well-informed about and comply with RI's safety and security policies. The Coordinator is tasked with identifying, analyzing, and proposing mitigation measures for risks to RI staff and assets, continuously monitoring the operational context for changes that may affect security, conducting security assessments, and delivering briefings and capacity-building sessions on security topics. Additionally, the Coordinator supports humanitarian access through stakeholder engagement and analysis of operational access constraints, providing timely insights and recommendations to facilitate safe program delivery.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Safety & Security Coordinator is responsible for a variety of key tasks under the supervision of the Area Manager. These include conducting regular visits to RI operational areas to engage with field team members, analyzing the operational context, and assessing safety practices. The Coordinator provides operational guidance to ensure that RI’s safety and security standards are understood and adhered to by all staff. They are responsible for ensuring compliance with safety policies at the field level, including those related to premises, travel management, safety equipment, and training. The Coordinator leads security assessments for new activity areas and premises, delivers safety briefings for new and existing staff, and supports coordination with local stakeholders to facilitate operational access. They also analyze and report on safety incidents, maintain security-related information products, and manage incident and crisis responses. Furthermore, the Coordinator oversees the Security Guard team, providing supervision and training to ensure effective implementation of security duties.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience related to safety and security. A minimum of 5 years of safety and security experience in the humanitarian sector is required, preferably in supervisory or leadership roles. Essential skills include excellent communication, negotiation, and diplomacy abilities, strong organizational and analytical skills, and the capacity to produce written documents such as briefing papers and incident reports. Fluency in Arabic and good spoken and written English are mandatory, along with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Proficiency in computer and information technology skills is also necessary, with experience in maps, dashboards, and databases considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject, which may encompass fields such as security management, international relations, or a related discipline. Alternatively, equivalent professional experience in safety and security roles will be considered acceptable. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of security management in humanitarian contexts.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in safety and security within the humanitarian sector. This experience should ideally include roles that involve supervisory or leadership responsibilities, demonstrating the ability to manage teams and coordinate security operations effectively. Familiarity with the security context in Idlib and/or Aleppo is highly desirable, as is experience in coordinating with various stakeholders, including government agencies and NGOs.

Languages:
Fluency in Arabic is mandatory for this role, along with good spoken and written English. Proficiency in these languages is crucial for effective communication with local staff, stakeholders, and international teams. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.

This position is a national role based in Idlib, Syria, and is expected to be full-time.
