Job Overview: The Communications Senior Officer position is a mid-level role within UNOPS, specifically under the Infrastructure and Project Management Group (IPMG). This role is designed for experienced communications professionals who will contribute to UNOPS' global mission by transforming complex information into impactful messages. The officer will be responsible for executing the IPMG Communications Strategy, enhancing organizational communications, and supporting sustainable development initiatives worldwide. The position is structured as a retainer contract, meaning that the officer will provide communications support on an on-demand basis, responding to specific requests from IPMG and other UNOPS teams. Duties and Responsibilities: The Communications Senior Officer will have a range of duties and responsibilities, including:
Communications Planning: Collaborating with the IPMG Communications Coordinator to formulate product-level communications plans that align with broader organizational objectives. Analyzing target audience needs and recommending effective channels and messaging modalities. Supporting the development of technical specifications for communication-related tenders.
Content Creation and Revision: Translating complex policies and methodologies into clear communications materials for non-technical audiences. Developing and revising audience-specific materials, including speeches, articles, and digital campaigns.
Visual Design and Multimedia Production: Designing engaging visual communications products, ensuring brand compliance and accessibility.
Quality Assurance: Conducting quality assurance reviews on communications products and supporting the collection of user feedback to measure impact.
Knowledge Sharing: Documenting lessons learned and sharing best practices to enhance the quality of communications globally.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of two years of experience in a communications-focused role, with a strong background in professional writing and familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud applications. Knowledge of Google Suite and experience within international organizations or the United Nations system are desired. Additionally, candidates should have experience supporting technical subject areas such as project management, infrastructure, or related disciplines. Familiarity with content management systems and online communications is also an asset.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree in communications, translation, journalism, graphic design, social sciences, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a bachelor's degree in a relevant field combined with two additional years of relevant professional experience may be accepted in lieu of a master's degree.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience in a communications role. Candidates should have experience with Adobe Creative Cloud applications and professional writing. Experience working within international organizations or the UN system is preferred, along with knowledge of technical subject areas related to project management and infrastructure.
Languages: Fluency in English is required, while proficiency in Spanish and French is desirable. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in English, and knowledge of additional languages can enhance the candidate's profile.
