Job Overview:
The role involves supporting the translation, review, and technical editing of six specialized documents developed in Chile regarding public climate policy from a gender perspective. These documents analyze gender gaps and opportunities for integrating gender considerations into various sectors of Chile's climate policy. The aim is to facilitate the international dissemination of these knowledge products by translating them from Spanish to Portuguese. Each volunteer will work collaboratively in pairs, with each person translating three documents and reviewing the other three. The work will follow a structured timeline of approximately three weeks per document, incorporating translation, peer review, feedback, and final adjustments. Volunteers will utilize AI tools and other validated translation assistance tools while ensuring adherence to UN Women’s standards and policies regarding responsible AI use and information protection.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Translation: Each volunteer will translate assigned documents from Spanish to Portuguese, ensuring accuracy and adherence to institutional language standards.
• Cross-review: Volunteers will review each other's translations for linguistic, technical, and conceptual accuracy, focusing on terminological precision and coherence.
• Peer feedback: Volunteers will exchange observations and collaboratively resolve terminological and conceptual doubts, establishing common criteria for consistency across documents.
• Final adjustments: Incorporate agreed-upon feedback into the translated documents and prepare final versions for submission to UN Women.
• Ensure the translation maintains conceptual accuracy, terminological consistency, and fidelity to the original content, while adapting to UN Women’s institutional language.
• Prepare texts for use in publications, reports, and institutional presentations, ensuring clarity and precision in definitions and recommendations.

Required Qualifications:
Volunteers should possess strong language skills in both Spanish and Portuguese, with a focus on technical translation. They should have a good understanding of gender issues, climate change, and public policy. Familiarity with UN Women’s institutional language and standards is essential. Volunteers must demonstrate attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Experience with translation tools and a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality in translation and editing are also required.

Educational Background:
A degree in translation, linguistics, gender studies, environmental science, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have formal training in translation and a strong grasp of the relevant subject matter, particularly in gender and climate change.

Experience:
Candidates should have prior experience in translation, particularly in technical or institutional contexts. Experience working with gender and climate change issues is highly desirable. Familiarity with UN processes and standards will be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish and Portuguese is mandatory. Knowledge of English or other languages is considered an asset but not required.
