The UNEP Latin America and the Caribbean Office (LACO), located in Panama City, Panama, works closely with 33 countries in the region, integrating its activities into the Medium-Term Strategy and the Programme of Work approved by the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA). UNEP's Chemicals and Pollution Action Programme aims to minimize the adverse effects of chemicals and waste on human health and the environment, implementing various initiatives and projects, including the promotion of zero waste approaches and the prevention of different forms of pollution, such as plastics and atmospheric pollution.

Job Overview:
The intern will be directly supervised by the Regional Coordinator on Chemicals and Pollution at the UNEP Latin America and the Caribbean Office (LACO). The primary focus of this internship is to support communication and knowledge management tasks related to several key projects and initiatives. These include the Intergovernmental Network on Chemicals and Waste for Latin America and the Caribbean, the Intergovernmental Network on Atmospheric Pollution, the Coalition for the progressive closure of dumpsites, and the Working Group on Plastics and Microplastics pollution. The intern will play a vital role in facilitating communication among stakeholders, managing information dissemination, and supporting various initiatives aimed at addressing pollution and environmental challenges in the region. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in environmental communication and project management within a global organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities will include supporting communication tasks for the networks on pollution associated with the Forum of Ministers of Environment in Latin America and the Caribbean. The intern will also be responsible for coordinating external communication for the cooperation networks on pollution, which includes updating web pages and drafting informative notes on activities. Additionally, the intern will assist in drafting, designing, and disseminating progress reports on the implementation of work plans and programs for regional cooperation networks. Knowledge management tasks will involve compiling results from knowledge-sharing activities and preparing for meetings of focal points and steering committees, including coordinating interactive dynamics, preparing support materials, and taking meeting minutes. The intern will also develop public awareness materials on pollution and coordinate face-to-face events as necessary, while supporting other activities of the Chemicals and Pollution Programme as requested.
