Job Overview: The Research Department of the IMF is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Economist/Senior Economist. The selected candidates will be integral in developing and applying global macroeconomic models that are essential for analyzing policy scenarios and assessing risks. This role involves close collaboration with IMF country teams to calibrate these models for various economies, including Advanced Economies, Emerging Market Economies, and Low-Income Countries. The successful candidates will be responsible for delivering quantitative model-based scenarios that are relevant to a wide range of countries, ensuring that these scenarios can be effectively communicated to policymakers and other stakeholders. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Economist/Senior Economist include but are not limited to:
Collaborating with country teams to calibrate models for different economic contexts.
Delivering quantitative scenarios that are relevant to various countries and can be communicated effectively to stakeholders.
Conducting research and analysis on macroeconomic issues and trends.
Preparing reports and presentations for internal and external audiences.
Engaging with policymakers and providing insights based on model outputs.
Contributing to the continuous improvement of modeling techniques and methodologies.
Working independently and as part of a team to meet tight deadlines and deliver high-quality outputs.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced graduate degree in economics or a related field. A strong academic and policy-oriented background in macroeconomics and macroeconomic modeling is essential. Candidates with at least five years of relevant professional experience will be given greater consideration. Relevant experience may include work in modeling teams at central banks, ministries of finance, or similar institutions. Excellent analytical, written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills are critical for success in this role. Candidates should also demonstrate flexibility and the ability to perform under pressure.
Educational Background: An advanced graduate degree in economics or a related field is required for this position. This educational background should provide a strong foundation in macroeconomic theory and practice, as well as quantitative methods relevant to economic modeling and analysis.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have at least five years of relevant professional experience.
