Senior Environmental and Social Advisory Specialist

Job Overview:
The Senior Environmental and Social Advisory Specialist will play a crucial role in updating the Environmental and Social (E S) Sustainability Framework (SF) of the International Finance Corporation (IFC). This position involves leading the production cycle of advisory notes that will contribute to the SF update, ensuring that the institution's lending practices are aligned with contemporary global challenges. The specialist will work closely with the head of Advisory and other stakeholders to conduct thorough data research and analysis, engage with IFC and MIGA, and present findings and recommendations. The role requires a strong emphasis on effective communication, strategic thinking, and collaboration to drive improvements in environmental and social performance within the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lead the entire production cycle of assigned Advisory notes, providing guidance to analysts for data research and analysis.
• Engage with IFC and MIGA as necessary to gather insights and present findings.
• Prepare and deliver presentations, organize workshops, and facilitate learning events based on an agreed work plan.
• Build trust-based relationships with stakeholders to influence improvements in environmental and social performance.
• Communicate complex information clearly and persuasively in both written and oral formats.
• Collaborate with CAO’s teams and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Mentor staff and consultants to foster an inclusive team culture.
• Analyze institutional dynamics and develop evidence-based recommendations aligned with strategic priorities.
• Manage detailed action plans and coordinate across teams to ensure timely project delivery. 1
• Fulfill additional tasks as agreed with the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in environmental and social sustainability, with proven expertise in policy analysis and development. They should demonstrate excellent analytical skills, with the ability to apply both qualitative and quantitative research methods. Strong communication skills are essential, as the role requires conveying complex information to diverse audiences. The candidate should also have experience in stakeholder engagement and collaboration, with a track record of building trust-based relationships. Additionally, the ability to mentor and guide team members is crucial for fostering a supportive work environment.

Educational Background:
A master's degree in environmental science, social science, public policy, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in sustainability or environmental management are highly desirable. The educational background should reflect a strong understanding of environmental and social governance frameworks and practices.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 7-10 years of relevant experience in environmental and social advisory roles, preferably within international development or financial institutions. Experience in leading projects related to sustainability frameworks and stakeholder engagement is essential. Familiarity with the operations of the World Bank Group and its accountability mechanisms will be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly Spanish or French, is considered a strong asset, as it enhances the ability to engage with a broader range of stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is full-time and based in Washington DC. The role may involve occasional travel to engage with stakeholders and conduct workshops.
