Job Overview: In this position, IDB Invest is seeking an experienced finance professional with a strong background in Asset Liability Management (ALM), Capital Management, and Balance Sheet Optimization. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in contributing to IDB Invest’s dynamic balance sheet management, leading key ALM initiatives that align with IDB Invest’s Impact+ mandate. The role involves taking ownership of day-to-day management and continuous enhancement of ALM activities, which include managing market risk, liquidity risk, and funds transfer pricing (FTP). The position is situated within the Treasury Division of the Finance and Administration Department, reporting directly to the Head of ALM. The Treasury Division is responsible for executing IDB Invest’s borrowing, hedging, trading, and cash management activities, as well as overseeing the ALM of the overall balance sheet. The Treasury is composed of four distinct units: Funding, Investments, Local Funding Solutions, and ALM.
Duties and Responsibilities: As a Senior Officer, the key responsibilities include overseeing ALM market and liquidity risks, ensuring alignment with ALCO strategies, and compliance with Board policy limits and credit rating objectives. The role also involves leading and supporting the continuous development of balance sheet management infrastructure, processes, and strategies, managing project milestones, achieving consensus with key stakeholders, and ensuring timely delivery and approvals. The successful candidate will maintain up-to-date ALCO ALM Guidelines, reflecting mandates, strategies, and overall market risk and balance sheet management processes. Additionally, the role requires contributing to the evolution of IDB Invest’s capital management framework in collaboration with stakeholders across finance, risk, and business origination, translating strategic objectives into clear processes, governance, and decision-making tools. Proactively assessing and recommending capital optimization opportunities and contributing to tactical capital allocation reviews by evaluating trade-offs across impact, profitability, capital efficiency, and long-term financial sustainability are also essential duties. The Senior Officer will oversee the production and continuous enhancement of relevant analytics and reports, promoting scalability and automation, and collaborate with other Treasury teams in developing business-enabling solutions. Furthermore, the role includes acting as the technical lead in cross-functional committees and working groups, owning and delivering complex, high-impact projects and frameworks, and mentoring junior staff to strengthen institutional capabilities and succession planning.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Finance, Risk Management, Engineering, or other relevant fields. Relevant professional certifications are considered a plus. Candidates should possess at least 6 years of progressively responsible experience in balance sheet management, capital management, asset and liability management, treasury management, or market risk. Experience leading cross-functional initiatives, complex frameworks, or high-impact projects is required, with a preference for candidates having eight to ten years of directly relevant experience. Strong quantitative skills, financial modeling expertise, and a sound understanding of capital and balance sheet management processes, strategies, and market instruments are essential. Hands-on experience in capital consumption measurements, pricing methodologies, and the assessment of trade-offs across capital management levers and instruments is also necessary. A deep understanding of capital adequacy frameworks and respective MDB credit rating agency methodologies is required, along with expert knowledge of fixed-income markets, derivatives, FTP, and hedging strategies. Candidates should demonstrate strong project-management discipline, communication and influencing skills, motivation, self-drive, and a strategic mindset.
Educational Background: Candidates must hold a Master’s degree or an equivalent advanced degree in relevant fields such as Finance, Risk Management, or Engineering. Additional professional certifications that enhance the candidate's qualifications are considered advantageous.
Experience: The role requires a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in balance sheet management, capital management, asset and liability management, treasury management, or market risk. Candidates with eight to ten years of directly relevant experience will be preferred. Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and managing complex frameworks or high-impact projects is essential.
Languages: Proficiency in English is required for this position. A working knowledge of Spanish, Portuguese, or French is considered a plus, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a diverse environment.
Additional Notes: The position is offered as an international staff contract for an initial duration of 36 months, with the possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement.
