Job Overview:
The Macro Insurance Programme Coordinator position is based in the WFP London office and is integral to the organization's efforts in disaster risk financing (DRF) and macro insurance initiatives. The role involves facilitating strategic partnerships with key stakeholders in the insurance sector, including brokers, risk pools, and development actors. The coordinator will be responsible for enhancing WFP's visibility with the UK government and other financial institutions, contributing to the design and implementation of WFP's DRF architecture, and ensuring that gender-responsive operational plans are integrated into the organization's strategies. The position requires a proactive approach to resource mobilization and strategic engagement in discussions related to disaster risk financing, aiming to advance WFP's risk financing portfolio and emergency preparedness efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The key accountabilities for this role include developing and maintaining effective partnerships with insurance stakeholders, ensuring WFP's strategic engagement in the DRF sector, representing WFP in various multilateral bodies, identifying funding opportunities, and supporting country offices in designing risk profiles and insurance products. The coordinator will also oversee the implementation of WFP's macro insurance program, conduct field visits to strengthen response capacities, contribute to the design of the DRF architecture, and manage budgets and reporting to donors. Additional responsibilities include leading research initiatives, generating evidence for disaster response strategies, and providing technical supervision to ensure the best products are purchased to protect WFP's operations against climate events.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in disciplines such as economics, environmental studies, agriculture, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security, or related fields. Alternatively, a first university degree with two additional years of relevant work experience is acceptable. The role requires at least 8 years of progressively responsible work experience in disaster risk financing, parametric insurance, or climate risk management, with proven experience in working with sovereign/macro risk financing instruments and regional risk pools. Strong networks within the climate and disaster risk financing sectors, as well as experience with UN organizations, are highly desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in relevant fields such as economics, environmental studies, agriculture and food security, or development studies. A first university degree combined with additional work experience in related areas is also acceptable. The emphasis is on candidates who have a solid academic foundation in disciplines that relate to disaster risk financing and climate risk management.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 8 years of post-graduate experience in disaster risk financing, parametric insurance, or climate risk management. Candidates should have a track record of working with sovereign and macro risk financing instruments, as well as experience in product design and policy placement within the insurance industry. Field experience in humanitarian work is also beneficial, as is participation in relevant working groups in the disaster risk financing field.

Languages:
Fluency in English (level C) is mandatory, along with intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, or Portuguese. Proficiency in additional languages is considered an asset, particularly in enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders in the international arena.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified as an International Professional role and is open to candidates of all nationalities. The selected candidate will be employed on a fixed-term contract with a one-year probationary period. Mobility is a core requirement for WFP, although this position is classified as non-rotational, meaning the incumbent will not be subject to regular reassignment unless the position is reclassified. The role offers an attractive compensation and benefits package in line with ICSC standards, including basic salary, post adjustment, relocation entitlement, and various allowances. The selected candidate will be required to relocate to Rome, Italy, to take up this assignment.
