Job Overview:
The position of Professional Translator under the Long-Term Arrangement (LTA) is designed to provide essential translation and interpretation services for UNFPA's activities in Uzbekistan. This role is crucial for facilitating effective communication during high-level meetings, conferences, workshops, and other events that involve various stakeholders, including government officials, civil society, and international partners. The translator will be responsible for delivering high-quality translations from English to Uzbek and Russian, and vice versa, ensuring that all communications are accurate, culturally sensitive, and aligned with UN standards. The role requires the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines while maintaining a client-oriented approach and ensuring confidentiality in all aspects of the assignment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The translator/interpreter will undertake a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: providing high-quality written translations of documents such as press releases, reports, and proposals; offering consecutive and simultaneous interpretation services during events; editing and proofreading materials for clarity and correctness; ensuring that translations are culturally appropriate and sensitive to gender and other diverse issues; verifying the coherence and flow of longer documents; and maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions. The translator will also be responsible for managing information flow and adhering to deadlines and commitments made during the assignment.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate a proven ability to deliver high-quality translations and interpretations in English, Uzbek, and/or Russian. They should possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and have a high level of cultural sensitivity. The ability to work independently with minimal supervision is essential, as is the capacity to handle pressure and meet tight deadlines. Candidates should also have a strong client-oriented approach and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Educational Background:
A university degree in English/Russian Linguistics, Literature, Journalism, or an accredited qualification in translation and interpretation is preferred. Candidates with relevant professional certifications, such as IELTS or TOEFL, will be viewed favorably. Familiarity with social issues terminology, particularly in areas such as reproductive health, law, and public administration, is also advantageous.

Experience:
At least five years of proven experience in translation and interpretation is required. Previous experience working with the UN or other international organizations is considered an asset. Candidates should provide appropriate work samples to demonstrate their expertise in the field.

Languages:
Fluency in English, Uzbek, and/or Russian is mandatory, both verbal and written. Knowledge of Karakalpak is a plus. Candidates must demonstrate their language skills through a technical assessment and reference checks.

Additional Notes:
The Long-Term Arrangement is estimated to last for twelve months, with the possibility of extending for an additional twenty-four months, totaling thirty-six months. The payment structure will be based on a fixed fee rate for the duration of the contract, with payments made upon completion of deliverables and submission of invoices. Travel costs will be reimbursed according to UNFPA rules and regulations, and all air travel will be by economy class.
