Job Overview:
The Electromechanical Technician position at CERN is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are enthusiastic and curious about electromechanical systems. This role is part of CERN's ORIGIN programme, which focuses on the testing and installation of new and upgraded electrical, mechanical, and electronic equipment within the Machine Protection Section. The technician will be involved in various aspects of energy extraction systems installed in CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC) accelerator complex, contributing to the testing and validation of innovative technologies. The position requires a commitment to learning and adapting to new challenges, as well as the ability to work collaboratively within a team. The technician will receive all necessary training to support their development and ensure they can effectively contribute to the team's goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Electromechanical Technician include: contributing to the testing and validation of innovative energy extraction technologies using dedicated test benches and measurement equipment; participating in the installation, integration, and commissioning of electrical and electronic systems for CERN's accelerator infrastructure; supporting the operation, maintenance, and quality assurance of superconducting magnet protection systems; developing and performing tests on electronic equipment, analyzing results, and contributing to technical improvements; preparing technical documentation, maintaining equipment records, and working with a broad range of technologies including electronics, instrumentation, control systems, and power applications.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess experience working on low voltage electrical installations, basic experience with measurement techniques, and familiarity with assembling electronic crates, racks, and test benches. Additionally, candidates should have basic experience in power electronics and related control systems, as well as in planning electrical and mechanical tests and performing fault finding. Experience in installing and maintaining electronic systems and equipment is also required. Knowledge of electromechanical equipment, the ability to write technical documentation, and the ability to read and understand electrical and electronic schematics are considered assets. Attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a team are essential skills for this position.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a general secondary education diploma. Candidates must be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and should have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Electrical and/or Electromechanics or a related field. It is important to note that applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree are not eligible for this position.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in the relevant fields. Languages:

Additional Notes:
The contract duration for this position is 24 months, with a possibility of extension up to a maximum of 36 months. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the position is fully onsite. The target start date for this role is November 1, 202
  • Candidates should be aware that this position involves work in radiation areas and interventions in underground installations, which may require a valid driving license and exposure to electromagnetic fields under certain conditions. Due to the occupational health risks associated with this position, selected candidates must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed. The compensation includes a monthly stipend of 4687 Swiss Francs (tax-free), 30 days of paid leave per year plus 2 weeks of annual closure, comprehensive health insurance coverage, family allowances, and a relocation package depending on individual circumstances. On-the-job and formal training, including language classes, will also be provided.
