Job Overview:
As a Senior Investment Associate at IDB Invest, you will play a crucial role in the Corporates Division, which is responsible for leading the origination and delivery of operations in sectors such as agribusiness, manufacturing, tourism, and the digital economy. Your primary responsibilities will include developing and maintaining strong client relationships, analyzing financial statements, and building financial models to support management decision-making. You will proactively identify investment opportunities, assess their attractiveness based on credit quality and development impact, and participate in negotiations to facilitate transactions. This position requires a thorough understanding of finance and financial services, particularly in corporate and project financing, and the ability to coordinate transactions while managing various risks associated with projects. You will also prepare documentation for internal processes and contribute to the preparation of legal transaction documents, ensuring compliance with IDB Invest standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
As a Senior Investment Associate, your duties will encompass a wide range of responsibilities, including:
  • Demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of finance and financial services, particularly in corporate and project financing.
  • Supporting regional team leaders in developing and maintaining quality client relationships to enhance client service and identify new business opportunities.
  • Reviewing and analyzing financial statements and constructing or adjusting Excel financial models, including financial projection models, to evaluate financial information and support management decision-making.
  • Proactively identifying potential investment opportunities based on industry experience, reputation, market potential, financial capability, and strategic fit.
  • Assessing the attractiveness of specific investment opportunities with a focus on credit quality and development impact, including creating financial models, analyzing historical and projected financial data, and conducting industry and market research.
  • Participating in negotiations and utilizing negotiation skills to overcome impasses and lead negotiations in straightforward transactions.
  • Coordinating complete transactions, including in-person due diligence, and developing appropriate financial structures for both straightforward and sophisticated transactions.
  • Collaborating with IDB Invest’s development partners to manage environmental, social, technical, legal, corporate governance, and other risks in projects.
  • Preparing documentation for IDB Invest internal processes and contributing to the preparation and review of legal transaction documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with IDB Invest standards. 1
  • Assisting with disbursements for approved lending and investment transactions by verifying all contractual conditions. 1
  • Assisting in the preparation of PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets, pitchbooks, and other business-related reports in the day-to-day operations of the Unit.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the Senior Investment Associate position, candidates must possess the following qualifications:
  • An advanced degree (Masters, MBA, or equivalent) in economics, legal, finance, business administration, engineering, or another relevant field.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in loan and investment origination, structuring structured finance (project finance), or corporate finance transactions.
  • Confirmed experience in a similar role within an investment, advisory firm, or development bank is highly desirable.
  • Strong client relationship experience and skills are highly valued, as the role requires effective communication and relationship management with clients and stakeholders.

Educational Background:
Candidates must hold an advanced degree, such as a Master's degree, MBA, or an equivalent qualification in fields such as economics, legal studies, finance, business administration, engineering, or other relevant disciplines. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate possesses the necessary theoretical knowledge and analytical skills required for the role.

Experience:
The position requires at least three years of relevant professional experience in areas such as loan and investment origination, structured finance (including project finance), or corporate finance transactions. Candidates with confirmed experience in similar roles within investment firms, advisory firms, or development banks will be preferred. Strong client relationship management skills are also highly valued, as the role involves significant interaction with clients and stakeholders.

Languages:
Candidates must have oral and written professional proficiency in both English and Spanish. This bilingual requirement is essential for effective communication with clients and stakeholders across the region. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.

Additional Notes:
The position is a national staff contract for an initial duration of 36 months, with the possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement. Candidates must be eligible to work in Peru without the need for sponsorship. Additionally, candidates must not have any family members working at IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouses.
