Job Overview: The Project Associate will work under the direct supervision of the National Project Officer (coordination) and will be responsible for supporting and coordinating the achievement of project objectives and results. This role involves the successful day-to-day implementation of activities under the EU-funded project ‘Promoting Sustainable and Socially Inclusive Labour Market Integration’. Given the context of Türkiye, which hosts the largest refugee population globally, the Project Associate will play a crucial role in addressing the challenges of social and economic integration for over 4.6 million foreign nationals, including 3.2 million Syrians under Temporary Protection. The position requires a proactive approach to enhance employability and integration services for targeted populations, ensuring that vulnerable groups are given special attention. The Project Associate will also be involved in monitoring project activities, budget management, and liaising with various stakeholders, including governmental and non-governmental organizations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Associate will assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities, which includes retrieving, compiling, summarizing, analyzing, and presenting information/data on specific project topics. They will monitor the project budget, verify the availability of funds, obtain necessary approvals, and update budget-related information. The role involves acting as a focal point for administrative coordination of project implementation, which requires extensive liaison with diverse organizational units and external parties to initiate requests, obtain necessary clearances, and process administrative actions. The Project Associate will draft status reports, identify shortfalls in delivery, and suggest remedial actions. They will also draft correspondence on Labour Market Integration (LMI) project issues, prepare and update reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, presentations, and other forms of documentation. Additionally, they will respond to complex information requests, set up and maintain files/records, organize meetings, workshops, and training sessions, and participate in meetings and conferences. The Project Associate will assist in coordinating implementation activities with local authorities, partners, UN agencies, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, donors, and other stakeholders relevant to the project. They will also monitor the work of implementing partners and report non-compliances to the supervisor, provide guidance/training to new or junior staff, and perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a school diploma with five years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields from an accredited academic institution with three years of relevant professional experience. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs is essential. Additionally, experience working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, and other vulnerable groups is required. Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations or government institutions in a multicultural setting is an advantage.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes either a school diploma with five years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields. The degree must be from an accredited academic institution, as recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience if they hold a Bachelor’s degree, or five years of relevant experience if they possess a school diploma. Experience should include liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs, as well as working with migrants, refugees, and other vulnerable groups. Prior experience with international humanitarian organizations or government institutions in a multicultural setting is considered advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in English and Turkish is required for this position, both oral and written. All IOM staff members are required to be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish). Proficiency in the required languages will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: The position is subject to funding confirmation, and any offer made to the candidate is contingent upon this. The selection process may be used to staff similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in a similar position for a period of 24 months.
