Job Overview:
The Junior Mechanical Technician position within the EP-ATL-PO section is crucial for the upgrade and maintenance of the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). This role is designed for individuals who are eager to gain hands-on experience in a cutting-edge experimental physics environment. The successful candidate will support experienced colleagues in various mechanical installation and integration activities during Long Shutdown 3 (LS3). Duties and Responsibilities:
The Junior Mechanical Technician will be responsible for participating in large-scale movements of the ATLAS detector within the experimental cavern and assisting in the installation of access platforms. Key responsibilities include supporting sub-detector installation activities, which involve handling, transporting, and positioning components using appropriate lifting and alignment techniques. The technician will prepare and set up work areas and tooling, providing logistical support for detector interventions. Additionally, the role requires reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, performing basic dimensional checks, and reporting progress to supervising engineers. When necessary, the technician will manufacture parts and tooling using conventional machining techniques such as drilling, milling, and turning, ensuring that all work adheres to safety and quality standards.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess initial hands-on experience in mechanical assembly, fitting, or maintenance. They should be able to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and 2D/3D CAD models. Familiarity with conventional machining techniques and workshop practices is essential, along with basic metrology skills, including the use of calipers, gauges, and dimensional inspection tools. An awareness of occupational health and safety principles in workshop and industrial environments is also required. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in an international and multidisciplinary environment. A rigorous, detail-oriented, and safety-conscious approach to work is crucial, as is the ability to accurately document completed work and maintain high-quality standards while following technical procedures and safety requirements.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is a general secondary education diploma. Candidates must be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and should have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. It is important to note that applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree are not eligible for this position.

The compensation includes a monthly stipend of 4687 Swiss Francs (tax-free), 30 days of paid leave per year plus 2 weeks of annual closure, comprehensive health insurance coverage, and a relocation package depending on individual circumstances.
