Job Overview: The Junior Legal Counsel position at CIMMYT is designed for a self-motivated and results-oriented professional who will support the Regional Legal Counsel in delivering essential legal services. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities including contract management, legal research, compliance monitoring, and corporate governance. The successful candidate will primarily focus on legal operations within Bangladesh but may also contribute to regional legal initiatives as needed. The Junior Legal Counsel will engage in drafting and reviewing legal documents, conducting legal research, and assisting in contract negotiations, all while maintaining a high standard of professionalism and integrity.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Junior Legal Counsel will undertake a comprehensive set of duties including: drafting, reviewing, and amending contracts and legal documents; conducting first-level legal reviews to identify risks; supporting contract negotiations with various stakeholders; preparing legal summaries and correspondence; managing contract lifecycle activities; ensuring compliance with legal and institutional requirements; conducting legal research on relevant laws and regulations; coordinating with external legal counsel; monitoring contract deadlines and compliance; contributing to the improvement of legal processes and documentation; preparing meeting agendas and minutes; and representing the Legal Department in external forums when necessary. The role demands a meticulous approach to legal documentation and a commitment to supporting CIMMYT's mission through effective legal practices.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Law (LL.B.) from a recognized university, with an LL.M. being an advantageous qualification. A minimum of four years of experience in legal support, contract administration, or a related field is required. The ideal candidate should demonstrate proficiency in legal drafting, research, and analysis, as well as strong organizational and time management skills. Familiarity with Contract Lifecycle Management systems and legal operations in an international context will be considered beneficial. Educational Background: The educational requirement for this position includes a Bachelor's Degree in Law (LL.B.) from a recognized institution.
