Job Overview: The Electromechanical Technician position at CERN involves working on the development of High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) cables and coils. The role includes responsibilities such as the design, assembly, commissioning, and operation of winding and cabling machines used to produce HTS cables with REBCO tapes. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Electromechanical Technician include performing quality control (QC) and measurements on REBCO tapes, participating in the qualification of the mechanical properties of these tapes, making diagrams, wiring, PLC programming, and commissioning of electro-mechanical systems. Additionally, the technician will support activities related to the integration and use of REBCO tapes in HTS coils and cables. The role may also involve working with electrical cabinets or machines, conducting electrical testing or material testing, and engaging in mechanical assembly tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State. By the application deadline, applicants should have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or a related field, with a highest educational qualification of a general secondary education diploma. It is important to note that applicants who have previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract are not eligible. Additionally, candidates with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree are not eligible for this position.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a general secondary education diploma. Candidates should have completed their education in a relevant field, such as Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and should possess foundational knowledge that aligns with the responsibilities of the role.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have some level of experience, specifically a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation. Experience in electrical testing or material testing is preferred, as well as familiarity with reading and drawing circuit diagrams. Experience in the cabling and commissioning of electrical cabinets or machines is considered an advantage, along with mechanical assembly experience.
Languages: Proficiency in spoken and written English or French is mandatory, with a commitment to learn the other language being essential. This bilingual requirement is important for effective communication within the diverse environment at CERN.
