Job Overview: The Senior MBS Portfolio Manager will play a crucial role within the Agency MBS team, reporting directly to the team head in the Securitized Products Unit. This position requires independent judgment in managing Agency MBS portfolios, focusing on risk positioning, portfolio construction, and executing investment decisions within established guidelines. The Senior Portfolio Manager will be responsible for managing client portfolios primarily benchmarked to the Bloomberg Agency MBS Index. Additionally, this role involves providing education and professional development assistance to client institutions through analytical reporting, training, market updates, and participation in seminars organized by the Treasury both in the USA and internationally. The position is designed for a professional who can lead investment policy implementation, contribute to portfolio construction, and actively manage risk for fixed-income portfolios, ensuring alignment with investment objectives and risk tolerance.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Portfolio Manager will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including leading or contributing to the implementation of investment policies, portfolio construction, and active risk positioning for fixed-income portfolios. The role requires generating and implementing high-conviction investment ideas across Agency MBS sectors, with a focus on specified pools. The manager will be accountable for position sizing, relative value expression, and risk-adjusted performance. Additionally, the position involves monitoring portfolio risk exposures and performance drivers, ensuring that active positions are deliberate and aligned with approved risk budgets. The Senior Portfolio Manager will also coach and train junior staff, leverage technology and analytics to enhance trading execution, and provide timely updates to stakeholders regarding market developments and investment themes. Collaboration with other teams within the Treasury is essential to strengthen risk management and performance attribution processes. The role may also involve professional collaboration with official sector reserves managers and participation in technical advisory engagements and workshops.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in business, finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, or a related field, along with substantial relevant experience in fixed income and securitized products asset management. A minimum of eight years of experience managing Agency MBS portfolios is required, and a CFA or similar professional certification is considered a plus. Applicants should demonstrate strategic investment insight, trading perspective, and research expertise across benchmarked strategies involving Agency MBS and other structured products. Deep expertise in the Agency MBS market and broader securitized products markets is essential, along with strong knowledge of global fixed income markets and instruments. Candidates must also have experience managing portfolio risk through thoughtful risk allocation and disciplined position sizing, as well as strong analytical and quantitative skills.
