Job Overview:
The position is within the CERN Engineering department, specifically in the Cooling and Ventilation group (EN-CV). This group is tasked with the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of cooling and ventilation systems for CERN's large energy physics accelerators and experiments. The role involves joining the PSM Section (EN-CV-PSM), which oversees the operation and maintenance of these systems. The technician will be responsible for supervising installation work, commissioning new systems, upgrading existing systems, and consolidating older systems. The successful candidate will contribute their expertise in industrial cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration systems to ensure the efficient operation of complex cooling plants in a unique scientific environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The technician will be expected to plan, coordinate, supervise, and perform preventive and corrective maintenance activities on cooling and ventilation systems. They will ensure the systems operate appropriately and maintain regular communication with clients regarding equipment under their responsibility. The technician will propose solutions for modifications or renovations, technically coordinate contractors' activities, and contribute to projects from design to commissioning phases. They will also be responsible for keeping technical documentation up-to-date and compliant with quality standards, ensuring safety rules are respected during interventions, and regularly reporting on the progress of activities, schedules, and costs.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a higher technical diploma or equivalent relevant experience in Refrigeration, Electromechanics, or a related field. Having a fluid handling permit or equivalent is considered advantageous. The position requires experience in maintenance, operation, and installation of cooling, ventilation, and industrial systems, as well as technical coordination of external contractors and familiarity with CMMS tools. Experience with low-voltage electrical systems and initial experience in compressed air systems is also necessary, along with demonstrated experience in refrigeration system operations and installations.

Educational Background:
A higher technical diploma in a relevant field such as Refrigeration, Electromechanics, or a closely related discipline is required. Equivalent experience may also be considered acceptable, emphasizing the importance of practical knowledge and skills in the field.

Experience:
Candidates should have substantial experience in the maintenance, operation, and installation of cooling and ventilation systems. This includes technical coordination of contractors and familiarity with CMMS tools. Experience in low-voltage electrical systems and initial exposure to compressed air systems is also beneficial. The role demands a demonstrated history of working on refrigeration systems and installation projects, showcasing the candidate's ability to handle complex technical tasks.

Languages:
Proficiency in spoken and written English is mandatory, with a commitment to learning French considered a valuable asset. This bilingual capability will enhance communication within the diverse environment at CERN.

Additional Notes:
The position is a limited duration contract for 5 years, with the possibility of applying for an indefinite position under certain conditions. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the role is fully onsite. The technician will participate in regular stand-by duties, which may include nights, Sundays, and official holidays. The position involves working in radiation areas and underground installations, requiring a valid driving license and medical clearance due to occupational health risks.
