Job Overview: The Communications and Knowledge ManagementIntern will play a vital role in supporting the communication efforts of UN-Habitat in Tunisia. The intern will assist in preparing various communication materials, including social media posts, newsletters, and press releases, which are essential for promoting the organization's initiatives and events. The position requires a proactive approach to managing and updating UN-Habitat Tunisia's digital platforms, ensuring that content is current and engaging. The intern will also support the design of visual materials, document projects and events, and help organize outreach activities. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in communications within a UN context, contributing to the promotion of sustainable urban development.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern's responsibilities will include:
Assisting in the preparation of communication materials such as social media posts, articles, newsletters, and press releases.
Supporting the collection and drafting of press reviews and media monitoring summaries.
Managing and updating UN-Habitat Tunisia's digital platforms, including social media channels and website content.
Designing basic visual materials like infographics and presentations.
Documenting projects and events through photography, write-ups, and communication briefs.
Organizing and promoting events, campaigns, and outreach activities.
Taking notes during meetings and drafting meeting summaries as needed.
Archiving communication and visibility materials for knowledge management.
Performing any other communication-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Master's, PhD, or equivalent. Additionally, candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite. A demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and a commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter are essential. Candidates should also have the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
Educational Background: The preferred educational background for this internship includes a Bachelor or Master's degree in fields such as Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, Digital Communication, Graphic Design, Marketing, International Relations, Development Studies, or Urban Studies. Applicants must be students in their final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's, or Ph.D. program, or have completed such programs.
Experience: While professional work experience is not required for this internship, candidates should have academic exposure or experience in communications-related activities. This may include drafting social media content, writing articles, supporting communication campaigns, graphic design, media monitoring, or digital communications. Proficiency in written communication and the ability to conduct basic research and draft concise summaries or notes are desirable skills for this position.
Languages: Fluency in both oral and written English and French is required for this internship, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of Arabic is considered desirable, and familiarity with another UN language is also a plus.
Additional Notes: This internship is hybrid, based in Tunis, Tunisia, and is expected to last for 3 months with the possibility of extension. Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations, and they are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of Tunisia may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization.
