Job Overview: The Coordination Officer (Team Leader) will play a crucial role in the Child Protection Team within PBPS. This position involves overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and projects related to Child Protection in peacekeeping contexts. The officer will monitor and analyze program development, identify issues, and initiate corrective actions. Additionally, the role requires planning and facilitating workshops, conducting research, and coordinating policy development. The officer will also be responsible for generating survey initiatives, organizing written outputs, and providing substantive support to meetings and conferences. The position demands strong leadership skills, as the officer will lead field missions and coordinate outreach activities, including training workshops and seminars. The role is integral to ensuring that child protection measures are effectively integrated into peacekeeping operations, thereby enhancing the overall mission effectiveness.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Coordination Officer (Team Leader) will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
Developing, implementing, and evaluating programs/projects in Child Protection within peacekeeping operations.
Monitoring and analyzing program/project development and implementation, identifying problems, and initiating corrective actions.
Planning and facilitating workshops and developing action plans for change management.
Researching, analyzing, and presenting information from diverse sources.
Coordinating policy development, including reviewing and analyzing issues and trends.
Generating survey initiatives and designing data collection tools.
Organizing and preparing written outputs, such as background papers and reports.
Providing substantive backstopping to meetings and conferences, including proposing agenda topics and preparing documents.
Initiating and coordinating outreach activities and conducting training workshops. 1
Leading and participating in complex field missions, providing guidance to external consultants and drafting mission summaries. 1
Coordinating budget-related activities and preparing related documents and reports. 1
Collecting and analyzing data to identify trends and provide insights through data visualization methods. 1

Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong understanding of theories and concepts relevant to Child Protection in peacekeeping contexts. They should have the ability to identify and analyze issues, conduct independent research, and manage conflicting priorities. Professionalism, effective communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment are essential. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to gender perspectives and the equal participation of women and men in all areas of work. They should also be able to analyze and interpret data to support decision-making and convey information effectively to management.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree combined with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in project or program management, particularly in promoting and protecting the rights of the child, is required. Candidates should have experience working in conflict or post-conflict settings, as well as experience in designing, developing, and delivering training on child protection. Experience in international peacekeeping operations and in project management, donor relations, and resource mobilization related to child protection or human rights organizations is also required.
Languages: English is required for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level III in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. French is desirable, also at UN Level III proficiency.
Additional Notes: This position is temporarily available until March 31, 2027, with the possibility of extension.
