Job Overview:
The Methane Alert and Response Systems Implementation Coordinator will play a pivotal role in supporting the International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) in its mission to reduce methane emissions globally. This position involves providing technical expertise and guidance on the implementation of the MARS process, which is designed to detect major methane emissions using satellite technology and notify relevant stakeholders for prompt action. The coordinator will be responsible for developing strategies, engaging with government entities on technical topics, coordinating with partners, and delivering priority initiatives related to methane emissions reduction. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying challenges in implementation and ensuring alignment with project timelines and objectives. The coordinator will also be tasked with analyzing system data, developing narratives to illustrate progress, and maintaining effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders. This position is critical for the successful scaling of the MARS system and for ensuring that the initiatives align with the overarching goals of the UNEP and the Global Methane Pledge.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Methane Alert and Response Systems Implementation Coordinator include:

• Delivering a coordinated strategic approach for MARS implementation by providing targeted guidance on the coordination of MARS, ensuring alignment between technical and engagement components.
• Collaborating with the data team to analyze system data and develop narratives that highlight the growth of the system and identify barriers to implementation.
• Tracking progress on MARS-related initiatives and milestones, ensuring alignment with project timelines and objectives.
• Identifying and addressing challenges in implementation through effective coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
• Providing regular updates to stakeholders on project outcomes and achievements.
• Coordinating with external partners on MARS implementation.
• Developing and delivering a concept and design for a technical support system for MARS focal points and operators.
• Coordinating a pilot phase to test the support system approach and consolidating pilot results.
• Providing technical inputs for country deep-dive analyses and summarizing these analyses for key stakeholders. 1
• Drafting reports for external partners and maintaining MARS reporting schedules. 1
• Issuing notifications to stakeholders regarding major methane emission events and preparing rapid alerts for various sectors. 1
• Tracking feedback from government and industry stakeholders and supporting the continuous improvement of feedback processes. 1
• Streamlining and standardizing key MARS processes and templates. 1
• Maintaining internal tracking systems for data collection and reporting, and developing engaging content for stakeholder communications.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a Master's degree or equivalent in law, political science, environmental studies, sustainability, environmental or climate policy, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience in environmental, climate, or methane policy, or a related field is required. Candidates should possess strong analytical skills, the ability to communicate complex information effectively, and experience in project management and stakeholder engagement. Familiarity with methane emissions and climate change issues is essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a Master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as law, political science, environmental studies, sustainability, environmental or climate policy, or a related discipline. This educational background is critical for understanding the complexities of environmental policies and the technical aspects of methane emissions reduction.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience in environmental, climate, or methane policy, or a related field. This experience should include project management, stakeholder engagement, and technical expertise in environmental issues, particularly related to methane emissions and climate change. Candidates should demonstrate a proven track record of successfully managing projects and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory, as English is the working language of UNEP's IMEO. Knowledge of additional languages is considered an asset, as it can enhance communication with a broader range of stakeholders and facilitate international collaboration.
