Job Overview: The IT Operations Assistant position is crucial for supporting the World Food Programme's expanding operations in the Pacific region, particularly in Fiji. The role involves providing technical support to users, assisting with the deployment and maintenance of ICT infrastructure and equipment, and ensuring reliable connectivity and service availability across multiple locations. The incumbent will work closely with the IT Operations Associate and collaborate with various functional units within the Pacific Multi-Country Office. This position is essential for enhancing WFP's operational readiness and ability to deliver its humanitarian mandate effectively. The IT Operations Assistant will be responsible for troubleshooting, user training, and supporting the implementation of corporate ICT initiatives and standards, thereby contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of WFP's operations in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The IT Operations Assistant will carry out a variety of duties, including: performing system maintenance tasks such as monitoring, diagnostics, and optimization; maintaining technology and ensuring IT equipment is available for WFP staff; managing IT support requests through the corporate ticketing system; providing standard training to end users; conducting routine hardware and software testing; maintaining information records and asset inventories; developing training and onboarding documentation; suggesting improvements to IT service methods and processes; following emergency response procedures; and performing any other duties as required. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to continuous improvement in IT services.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong technical background in information technology, with good knowledge of cloud-based services, computer hardware, software, mobile devices, and networks. The ability to provide effective user support and resolve routine ICT incidents in a timely manner is essential. Knowledge of ICT asset management and basic procurement processes is also required. Experience in supporting connectivity solutions, including satellite and wireless communications, is desirable. Strong communication and customer service skills are necessary to work effectively with users at all levels, and proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and other standard business applications is expected.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in a related functional area, such as Information Technology or other technical fields, is desirable and will enhance a candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in information technology support, telecommunications, network administration, helpdesk services, or a related field. This experience should demonstrate a solid understanding of IT operations and the ability to manage and resolve technical issues effectively.
Languages: Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Candidates should possess a level C proficiency in English to ensure effective communication within the organization and with external stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is offered as a Service Contract at Level 5 (SC-5) for a duration of 12 months, based in Suva, Fiji.
