Job Overview:
The Head of the European Commercial Launcher Support Office will play a pivotal role within the Directorate of Commercialisation and Industry Partnerships at ESA. This position involves direct reporting to the Director of the Directorate and participation in high-level decision-making processes regarding major activities. The successful candidate will oversee the European Launcher Challenge and Boost! programmes, which aim to enhance the robustness of European access to space by fostering competition and innovation in the commercial launch services sector. The role requires a strategic vision for the future of European launch services, ensuring that ESA remains at the forefront of space transportation initiatives. The Head will also be responsible for liaising with various stakeholders, including Member States and industry partners, to align ESA's objectives with national and commercial goals in the space sector.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Head of the European Commercial Launcher Support Office include:

• Developing and motivating team members by assessing performance, encouraging professional growth, and providing constructive feedback.
• Ensuring the implementation of the European Launcher Challenge and Boost! programmes within established budgets and timelines.
• Leading the evaluation of industrial proposals, overseeing submission processes, and facilitating technical discussions with Member States.
• Establishing a long-term strategic vision for the programmes and proposing continuous improvements.
• Monitoring the technical and financial aspects of new commercial space transportation services in Europe.
• Collaborating with the Space Transportation Directorate to develop future transportation scenarios.
• Identifying and managing health and safety risks associated with the office's responsibilities.
• Liaising with other departments and offices within ESA to ensure cohesive operations and support.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in the European launcher sector, with significant experience in interacting with the European space industry, particularly with emerging companies developing new launch systems. Proven project and team management experience is essential, along with the ability to foster cooperation and drive performance across teams. Candidates should demonstrate excellent leadership, relationship management, and communication skills, both written and oral. A creative and adaptable mindset is necessary, as well as the ability to navigate change management in a large organization.

Educational Background:
A master's degree in business administration, engineering, or economics is required for this position. This educational background should be complemented by extensive professional experience in relevant fields, particularly those related to space and commercial launch services.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience, with a proven track record of leading and developing teams. International experience is highly desirable, particularly in diverse functional areas relevant to ESA's activities. The ability to provide strategic direction and relate team objectives to broader organizational goals is crucial.

Languages:
Fluency in English and French is mandatory, as these are the working languages of ESA. Knowledge of an additional language from another Member State would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.
