Job Overview:
The CCAC Technical Specialist for the Super Pollutants Accelerator in Mexico will play a crucial role in supporting the Mexican government by providing technical input and science-based information to key stakeholders. This position is focused on ensuring that short-lived climate pollutant (SLCP) mitigation strategies are effectively integrated into Mexico's national climate commitments, including the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC3.0 implementation plans) and the National Climate Change Strategy (ENACC/PECC). The Specialist will be responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based technical assistance projects that align with global best practices. This role requires a deep understanding of SLCPs and the ability to translate scientific insights into actionable policy recommendations, thereby enhancing Mexico's capacity to implement and scale impactful SLCP mitigation measures across various sectors.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Technical Specialist will have a wide range of responsibilities, including:

• Strengthening policy integration of SLCP mitigation by ensuring that scientific evidence and technical recommendations are incorporated into national and sectoral planning instruments.
• Delivering high-quality technical inputs to government and partners, including targeted analyses and evidence-based recommendations that inform decision-making on SLCP mitigation measures.
• Enhancing the design and quality of technical assistance projects by conducting scientific and methodological reviews to ensure alignment with global best practices.
• Improving national capacity for SLCP mitigation by providing targeted guidance and capacity-building support to government counterparts and stakeholders.
• Contributing to the development of technical guidance and policy integration products, including technical briefs and policy notes that synthesize science-based recommendations.
• Supporting CCAC projects under the Accelerator Programme through technical reviews and documentation of recommendations.
• Engaging in capacity building and technical training for government officials on SLCP science and mitigation pathways.
• Contributing to knowledge products and international engagement by preparing materials for regional and global platforms.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in environmental sciences, climate policy, atmospheric science, chemical or environmental engineering, or a similar discipline. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. A minimum of 4–7 years of relevant experience in SLCP science, mitigation technologies, or climate mitigation is required, with a preference for direct work on methane, black carbon, HFCs, or related pollutants. Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and possess a good understanding of climate change and air pollution issues in Mexico. Proficiency in advanced Excel formulas is required, along with proven experience working on climate initiatives within government institutions or international development partners.

Educational Background:
The position requires an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in a relevant field such as environmental sciences, climate policy, atmospheric science, or chemical/environmental engineering. A first-level university degree may be accepted if accompanied by additional qualifying experience. This educational background is essential for understanding the complex interactions between climate change, air quality, and mitigation technologies.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 4–7 years of experience in the field of SLCP science and mitigation technologies. This experience should preferably include direct work on pollutants such as methane, black carbon, and HFCs. Familiarity with climate policy processes in Mexico or Latin America is highly desired, along with hands-on experience with GHG inventory systems and international climate agreements.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish (both written and oral) is required for this position, as it is essential for effective communication with government counterparts and stakeholders. Fluency in English is highly desired, as it will facilitate engagement with international partners and contribute to the preparation of technical documents and reports.
