Job Overview: The Accountability and Safeguarding Officer will play a crucial role in supporting project teams to ensure program quality and effective communication with Relief International program participants and community members. This position involves direct collaboration with the Accountability and Safeguarding Coordinator and field staff to manage feedback and complaints from beneficiaries. The officer will act as a focal point for receiving and documenting complaints, ensuring confidentiality, and reporting findings for necessary interventions. The role requires active participation in field activities, training sessions, and workshops to promote awareness of accountability and safeguarding policies among stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary contact for RI participants, managing the hotline and documenting communications in the complaints and feedback system database.
Collect feedback and complaints during meetings, trainings, and events, and alert the Accountability and Safeguarding Coordinator of significant issues.
Collaborate with the Coordinator to track and document all complaints and feedback, ensuring proper follow-up and referrals to relevant organizations.
Conduct field visits to disseminate information about accountability and safeguarding policies, ensuring all partners are trained on reporting channels.
Lead capacity-building activities for program teams on accountability, protection, and gender mainstreaming, including training on safeguarding policies.
Prepare detailed reports for donors, analyzing feedback and complaints, and ensuring proper documentation of accountability indicators.
Engage in regular satisfaction surveys and lessons learned activities to improve program relevance and effectiveness.
Represent RI in internal and external meetings related to safeguarding and accountability, providing insights and updates on RI's efforts.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, humanitarian studies, law, or a related field. A minimum of two years of relevant work experience in accountability to affected populations, participant safeguarding, and feedback mechanisms is essential. Experience working with vulnerable populations in emergency settings is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to humanitarian ethics, impartiality, and confidentiality, as well as a strong understanding of RI’s accountability approaches and core humanitarian standards. Proficiency in mobile data collection tools, effective time management skills, and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams are also required.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as social sciences, humanitarian studies, or law is mandatory for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and the importance of accountability and safeguarding in program implementation.
Experience: The position requires at least two years of work-related experience in areas such as accountability to affected populations, participant safeguarding, and feedback and complaints mechanisms. Candidates should have a proven track record of working with vulnerable populations in emergency contexts, demonstrating their ability to navigate the challenges associated with humanitarian work effectively.
Languages: Fluency in Arabic and English, both written and oral, is required for this role. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse populations and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This is a part-time national position based in Beirut, Lebanon. The role may require flexibility in working hours and the ability to travel to field locations as needed.
