Job Overview:
The Electromechanical Technician for Cryogenics will play a crucial role in ensuring the availability and reliability of CERN's cryogenic installations. This position involves providing daily technical support, maintaining industrial instrumentation systems, and diagnosing complex electrical faults. The technician will also contribute to the design and optimization of low-voltage electrical cabinets and components, ensuring compliance with electrical safety standards. The role requires a proactive approach to operational support, including participation in stand-by duty services to address urgent issues, fault-finding, and implementing fixes. The technician will be responsible for planning and coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance activities, maintaining technical documentation, and ensuring that all systems operate efficiently and safely.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Contribute to the technical design and development of electrical cabinets for cryogenic systems, including calculations for system dimensions, producing detailed electrical drawings, selecting components, and ensuring compliance with electrical safety requirements.
• Participate in and supervise the fabrication, installation, and commissioning of electrical and instrumentation systems for cryogenic installations, including procurement activities such as evaluating cost estimates and ordering components.
• Provide daily operational support for cryogenic installations and contribute to the stand-by duty service to resolve urgent issues, including fault-finding, implementing fixes, and reporting to the operation team.
• Plan and coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities for system components, setting maintenance priorities, and keeping the corresponding technical documentation and procedures up to date.
• Select and implement industrial instrumentation systems and carry out equipment testing and calibration according to operational requirements.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a technical certificate or general secondary education, or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Industrial Electrotechnics, Electrical and Instrumentation Technology, Electromechanics, or a related field. The position requires a strong foundation in electrical systems and instrumentation, as well as a commitment to safety and compliance with industry standards.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should have a technical certificate or general secondary education in a relevant field such as Industrial Electrotechnics, Electrical and Instrumentation Technology, or Electromechanics. Equivalent relevant experience may also be considered, emphasizing the importance of practical knowledge and skills in the field.

Experience:
Candidates should have substantial experience in the design of low-voltage electrical systems and cabinets, including system architecture, cable and protection sizing, device selection, and preparation of wiring diagrams using electrical SEE CAD software. Additionally, experience in the manufacture, wiring, testing, coordination of installation, and commissioning of electrical equipment is essential. The role also requires experience in diagnosing and resolving electrical or instrumentation faults in operational systems, as well as preventive and corrective maintenance and maintaining technical documentation and procedures.

Languages:
Proficiency in spoken and written English or French is mandatory, with a commitment to learn the other language. This bilingual requirement is essential for effective communication within the diverse workforce at CERN.

Additional Notes:
This position is a limited duration contract for 5 years, with the possibility of extension up to 8 years and eligibility for an indefinite contract tenure. The role requires participation in regular stand-by duty, including nights, Sundays, and official holidays, and involves working in radiation areas and underground installations. A valid driving license is required, and candidates must obtain medical clearance due to occupational health risks associated with the position. The job grade is classified as 3-4, and the working hours are set at 40 hours per week.
