Job Overview:
As a Data Science Intern within MSF-USA’s Workforce Intelligence & Strategy Unit, you will engage in transforming complex workforce data into actionable insights that facilitate evidence-based decision-making across the organization. Your role will involve close collaboration with analysts and data scientists to enhance reporting and visualization capabilities using Power BI. This internship will provide you with the opportunity to design and deliver interactive dashboards, improve data reliability, and develop data models that support automated reporting. You will also gain hands-on experience in data governance, visualization design, and applied workforce analytics in a mission-driven environment, contributing to the overall effectiveness of MSF's workforce planning and strategy.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design and deliver at least one interactive Power BI dashboard that visualizes key workforce metrics and trends.
  • Improve data reliability and consistency by identifying and resolving data quality issues across multiple sources, including HRIS, recruitment, and survey data.
  • Develop and document data models and DAX measures to support automated reporting and self-service analytics.
  • Produce clear visual and written summaries that connect data findings to actionable recommendations for People & Culture leadership.
  • Streamline or document data transformation and refresh processes for recurring Power BI reports.
  • Troubleshoot data and visualization challenges independently and propose creative solutions to improve reporting efficiency and impact.
  • Collaborate with team members to foster a culture of trust, collaboration, and high performance.

Required Qualifications:
  • Genuine commitment to the principles and work of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Analytics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Demonstrated experience building and managing Power BI dashboards, including data modeling, Power Query, and DAX.
  • Strong analytical and statistical foundation, including regression, hypothesis testing, and distributions.
  • Passion for data visualization design and effectively communicating insights.
  • Hands-on experience with Python and/or R for data wrangling and analysis.
  • Excellent attention to detail and data integrity.
  • Ability to work with complex, distributed, and sometimes unstructured data.
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, with a passion for turning data into meaningful insights. 1
  • Interest in HR analytics, workforce planning, or people analytics is a plus.

Educational Background:
Candidates should be currently pursuing or have recently completed a Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Analytics, or a related quantitative field. This educational background is essential to ensure that the intern possesses the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for the role.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have demonstrated experience in building and managing Power BI dashboards, as well as a strong analytical and statistical foundation. Experience with data wrangling and analysis using Python and/or R is also necessary. The intern should be comfortable working with complex datasets and possess the ability to troubleshoot data quality issues independently.
