Job Overview:
UNESCO is seeking part-time Arabic language teachers to join its language teaching programme, which is designed to enhance the language skills of staff and other participants. The teachers will work under the supervision of the Learning & Development team within the Bureau of Human Resources Management. The primary goal of the language teaching programme is to promote linguistic balance and multilingualism within UNESCO by offering language courses. The selected teachers will be responsible for conducting in-person beginners' courses for Arabic, which will take place three hours per week from October to December 202

• This role is crucial for helping participants develop effective communication skills and fostering a multilingual environment within the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The part-time language teachers will have a variety of responsibilities, including:

• Teaching Arabic beginners courses in-person, focusing on both production and receptive language skills.
• Preparing detailed course descriptions, programs, classes, and learning materials tailored to the level and objectives of the group.
• Correcting assignments and homework as applicable, providing individualized feedback and advice on participants’ progress.
• Carrying out administrative duties related to language teaching, such as maintaining students’ attendance records and communicating with students as needed.
• Collaborating with the Learning & Development team to ensure the language programme meets the needs of participants.
• Participating in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and methodologies.
• Maintaining a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and participation.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess training and qualifications in second or foreign language teaching, which is highly desirable. A qualification from a higher education institution in language area studies, language teaching, applied linguistics, communication, education/pedagogy, or a related field is preferred. However, qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of formal qualifications. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to UNESCO's core values, including integrity, respect for diversity, and professionalism.

Educational Background:
The ideal educational background for this position includes a degree or certification in language teaching, applied linguistics, or a related field. Candidates with a strong foundation in education or pedagogy will also be considered. Training in second or foreign language teaching is highly desirable, and relevant qualifications from recognized institutions will strengthen the application.

Experience:
Candidates should have experience in teaching Arabic to adult learners in a professional context. This experience is preferred as it demonstrates the ability to effectively engage with adult students and tailor teaching methods to their needs. Experience in a multicultural environment and familiarity with the challenges faced by language learners will be advantageous.

Languages:
The mandatory language for this position is Arabic, as the role involves teaching Arabic language courses. Proficiency in English and/or French is also beneficial, as these languages are commonly used within UNESCO and may facilitate communication with colleagues and participants from diverse backgrounds.
