Job Overview:
In this role, you will be part of a specialist service that works with male survivors of sexual violence across Queensland. Your primary responsibilities will include providing counselling and a range of in-person and online specialist supports to help these individuals overcome the impact of their experiences. This position is a fixed-term contract role through to mid-September 2027, covering parental leave. You will be based in Brisbane and will be a member of the QLD Programs team, reporting to the Team Leader. The role requires you to provide psychoeducation, counselling, information, referrals, and case management to males with complex needs, ensuring that you apply a trauma-informed practice framework throughout your work. You will also conduct thorough risk and needs assessments and assist victim/survivors in developing emotional regulation strategies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Your duties will include providing specialist support and counselling to male survivors of sexual violence, conducting risk and needs assessments, and offering psychoeducation. You will be responsible for providing brief counselling interventions, assisting with financial assistance applications, and educating clients on court processes. Additionally, you will help clients develop emotional regulation strategies and provide holistic support tailored to their individual needs. You will work collaboratively with other team members and stakeholders to ensure that clients receive comprehensive care and support.
Required Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, you must possess a Bachelor of Counselling, Social Work, Psychology, or a relevant Human Services Qualification. Alternatively, significant experience in a similar role will also be considered. You should have a strong understanding of counselling frameworks and the impact of sexual assault on individuals. Experience working within a counselling role or similar is essential, along with strong teamwork and communication skills. A current driver's license and Blue Card are also required, as well as a suitable space to work from home in a hybrid model of service delivery.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field. Candidates with significant relevant experience may also be considered in lieu of formal qualifications. It is crucial that applicants have a solid understanding of the theoretical frameworks underpinning counselling practices, particularly in relation to trauma and sexual assault.
Experience:
Candidates should have experience working in a counselling role or a similar capacity, particularly with male clients or young males. - The role operates on a 5-day fortnight (38 hours), and the organization supports a hybrid model of service delivery, allowing for both office and home-based work. The salary is based on an award rate (Level 4.1), currently set at $46.70, with full salary packaging benefits available.
